We caught the train at 14:00 from KL Sentral Station (yes spelt with an S!) and began our 8 hour journey to Singapore. We arrived (after doing all the stupid immigration stuff again, on the train, off the train, on the train, off the train with bags on the train again) around 22:00 and we caught a taxi to our 'hotel' which is a little way out of town. It's also not really a hotel, it's basically a room in someone's apartment with a shared bathroom, it's nice enough, a couple live there and we were the only other guests so it was fine and a lot cheaper than getting a place in town! We ditched our bags and headed out to find food. Again we managed to find ourselves in the heart of Chinatown (don't know how we keep managing it!) but there was a posh pizza place nearby so we had 2 pizza's to take away and we eat them in our room watching a movie on the laptop. The bed is really comfy and we've got 2 pillows each, yes, 2 pillows!

NEW YEARS EVE! Woke up around midday, lazed about for a bit, need to find out how to get into town, gonna head out around 16:00ish and stay out for the festivities.
What a night! We headed out and caught the bus down to the Harbourfront where we found ourselves in Vivocity, one of Singapores MASSIVE shopping malls. We had a few hours to kill so we wandered around bewildered at the amount of shops and the amount of people there were, it was mad! We weren't sure what to do so we decided to head to the Marina where we thought something might be happening so we managed (I don't know how) to find the MRT station (like the underground) and we bought tickets to City Hall. We managed to get ourselves lost amidst all these people and headed through the wrong barriers, so we had a right palava trying to get to the right train, luckily helpful people pointed us in the right direction and we were off! Once we got to City Hall, us and about 10,000 other people had to walk through another shopping centre to get outside and once we did we were met by about 30,000 people just hanging around the Esplanade which is an open grassy area next to the marina where we could see the fireworks. I don't think I've ever seen so many people and there not be a concert or festival or something, total madness but the atmosphere was brilliant! We found a spot and sat down. Just before midnight everyone began clapping and cheering and then the fireworks started, it was the best I've ever seen, it was amazing! It was a brilliant, if surreal way to see in the new decade and once it was over we had to try and find our way back to the apartment. We thought we saw the bus we needed so we went and queued up for ages, when the bus finally made it through the crowds to the stop, it was going the opposite way to what we wanted! We decided to get a taxi but obviously everyone else had the same idea. We walked away from the main crowd and I began waving at taxi's. After about half an hour I managed to flag one down much to the annoyance of everyone around us and we hopped in. Once we got back to the apartment the chinese cafe next door was still open so we even managed to get some chicken fried rice, bonus! Had a brilliant night but ready for my bed now!

NEW YEARS DAY. After a little lie-in we ventured into town on the bus again and we found ourselves in Vivocity (again!). It was really busy again so we decided to have something to eat and go and watch a film. We mooched about for a couple of hours getting lost in all the shops and then made our way up to the top floor to watch 'Sherlock Holmes'. It was brilliant and I'm not just saying that 'cause it's the first time I've been to the cinema in AGES, it really was a brilliant film! That finished about 23:00ish so we got the bus back to Tanjong Katong (the road we were staying on) and went to get some chicken and steamed rice from this little cafe on the street, it was really nice, much better than the place we went the night before where there were cockroaches everywhere. One even flew right past my ear and freaked me out, I didn't even know the b******s could fly!

Spent today mooching around another shopping centre! This time we went into the 'Raffles' area of town, very posh! Didn't do much else apart from try not to spend much money ha ha!

Went to City Hall on the bus and walked in the direction of the 'Singapore Flyer' the tallest ferris wheel in the world. It was AU$15 each but we thought we'd perhaps never be here again so on we went! It was really good looking at Singapore from so high up, you really could see everything. It only lasted 30 mins but once I'd stopped freaking out about the height I could've gone round a couple more times! After that it was on to the MRT to Harbourfront where for the second time this week we went to watch a film (The Secret Lives Of Pippa Lee) as this seems the only thing to do apart from shop! Got the bus back to Tanjong Katong Rd and we had some food at the same place we went 2 nights ago, the place is so clean you could eat your dinner off the floor! The rice tasted so good and I found out that it's because they add a bit of coconut milk to the water the rice is cooked in, yummy!
