Ben & Sara's Trip
Hey Guys,
Since our last e mail we've done a few more km's out here in the biggest empty place in the world!! The day after our last update we went on what is supposedly the worlds longest day trip and it took us about 18.5hrs door to door!! We were picked up at 6am from our hostel and made our way towards Uluru (Ayers Rock) which is a 6hr bus ride from Alice Springs. On our way we stopped in on Dinky the Singing Dingo, which was as weird as it sounds, and eventually made it to Uluru just after midday. We went on a couple of walks and did a base tour and then went to Kata Tjuta (The Olga's) before returning to watch Uluru change colour with the sun set which was nice. We then got a bus back to Alice Springs and got back in at about 12.30am after leaving someone behind and been pulled over by the police!!
The next day we were up at 9am and on a bus to Adelaide at 10am. It took us 20 hours to do the Alice Springs to Adelaide journey which was pretty boring but once we got there we were picked up by Mary who used to live over the road from us in Dickens Heath. She very kindly turned out at 6am to pick us up and take her back to her Mum and Dad's where we spent the following 3 nights. It was so nice to be back in home luxuries rather than hostels and it has to be said it was the comfiest bed in Australia!! That afternoon we saw a bit of Adelaide before going to Mary's sister and brother in laws seafood restaurant in the Glenelg Marina. Neither me nor Sara are big seafood fans but Mary's Mum does a mean Lemon Pepper Calamari and had prepared us this massive seafood platter which was absolutely gorgeous.
On Saturday we spent the morning at the house, I helped Mary's brother to knock down the garden wall and Sara was on babysitting duty. In the afternoon we went go karting with various members of the family which was brilliant and then we had dinner at the restaurant again which was beautiful again. I can say hand on heart that if anyone finds themselves hungry in Adelaide then there is a cracking restaurant I would recommend to anyone and everyone!!
Sunday we headed into Adelaide with Mary tpo have a look around the river, Festival Theatre and of course the shops. We then went to dinner at an Italian before heading to the restaurant to see Mary's sister and brother in law and say goodbye. That evening the house was full when we got back so we stayed up chatting till the early hours of the morning.
Yesterday we were booked onto the 8pm overnight service to Melbourne so we just chilled out around the house. Mary's Mum and Dad both had the day off from the restaurant but were still running round and looking after us which made us feel a bit guilty! I helped out in the garden a bit and then spent most of the afternoon chatting and keeping the kids amused! The time to leave for the bus came far too soon and we were both really sad to leave because we'd had such a wonderful time and been looked after so well. It also made us a bit homesick because it was nice to be around a family again and made us miss ours!!
We arrived from Adelaide in Melbourne this morning and after recovering from the bus ride we went for a walk around Melbourne. I eventually persuaded Sara that a good way to spend the afternoon was in the AFL Hall of Fame, which is the Aussie Rules Football museum. It was brilliant there were loads of interactive games etc, Ducky you have to go see it when you're here cos you'll love it!! This evening we have an exciting evening of washing ahead so I will bid you farewell!! Hope you're all well and we'll no doubt be in touch again before we get back, only 17 days to go now!!
Lots of Love Ben and Sara xx
