Ben & Sara's Trip
Hey Guys,
We're having to catch up about a week here again so you'll have to bear with me but I have added some photo's as well so you don't have to read this!!
Last Thursday we had another quiet day, just headed down to the beach and did some body boarding and then chilled out in the hostel, we spent a bit of time reading in Byron Bay as we hadn't been doing much of that. On the evening we headed up to the Lighthouse at Cape Byron, Australia's most Eastern point in order to watch the sunset, as Sara had been playing hell that we'd not done that yet. It was a bit of a killer walk up but really worth it.
Friday was pretty similar only this time Sara got on her body board and we both gave it a go which was really cool. We were then going to have an early night as we were up early Saturday to get the bus but it never really transpired. We really enjoyed our time in Byron Bay, there wasn't as much to do as the other places but it was a nice chilled out atmosphere.
Saturday morning we got up, checked out and got on the bus for Surfers Paradise. The journey didn't take too long and before we knew it we were getting picked up by Gill and Ben's Transit van style camper van, it made our van look like a Mini!! We then headed into Surfers Paradise and got some lunch and caught up with what each other had been up to. After lunch we walked around, and the girls booked their sky dive for Sunday morning. The pace of Surfers was much quicker than Byron and was a bit fo a shock!! We then headed out to Ben and Gills campsite and just chilled out in the van before heading into Surfers for the England game. Not an inspiring start to the campaign but if you play badly and win you can't complain too much!!
Sunday we got up and the weather had once again transpired against Sara and prevented her from jumping so we headed out to Dreamworld instead. Its the biggest theme park over here and it was totally awesome. There was a ride which promised the worlds biggest free fall drop and I won't lie while we were sat at the top for 10+ secs I was bricking it!! There was also a ride that did 0-100mph in 6 seconds which was cool. After that we went to watch a totally awesome Tiger show with these beautiful Bengal Tigers. The rides at Dreamworld were really good and the company wasn't too bad either so it was a good day all round!! I wasn't impressed with how happy it made everyone when I got soaked on the rapids ride though!!
Sunday morning we got up having rearranged the sky dive for 9am only for it to be cancelled again which was a bummer. After a lot of fannying around we ended dup going glow in the dark bowling and i got embarrassed by an on fire Sara who hustled me in the second game!! After that Ben and Gill dropped us off at the bus station and we said farewell as we had a bus to catch to Brisbane. We got into Brisbane after a 3hr bus journey to find that the one place we hadn't booked a hostel was the one place that the hostels didn't send a bus to in order to drum up some business off the bus!! Still we had a voucher for a hostel so we gave them a call and they came to pick us up.
The next morning we slept in till gone 11 so we'd already lost half a day. We caught the shuttle into the town centre and had a quick gander before heading to the travel agents to book our Fraser island and Whitsundays tour. We got the 3 day 2 night self drive tour of Fraser, a 3 day 2 night Sail around the Whitsundays with a free barrier reef dive and 6 other nightys thrown in for 140 quid each so we were pretty happy!! We then went to the Sciencentre as the geek in me had come out and I dragged Sara along but it turned out to be really cool. There were loads of cool things to do and although someone as cool as Ducky wouldn't go it was pretty good!! From there we walked along the South Bank Parklands and down to Streets Beach which is a beautiful man made lagoon by the side of the river- pretty cool!!
Yesterday we got up early and headed out to Australia Zoo home of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, it was pretty brilliant. We met Harriet, George Darwins 175 year old tortoise, and hand fed an Elephant. Then we watched a snake, Tiger, Bird and Crocodile show which was good although not as good as the Tiger show at Dreamworld. Aside from that we patted and cuddled Koala's, stroked and held a baby Alligator, fed the Kangaroos and saw some other native creatures. We then got the train back to Brisbane, on the State of Origin service which was full of Rugby League fans heading to the big Queensland v New South Wales game, Queensland hammered them.
This mornign we got up and checked out and then caught the bus from Brisbane to Noosa which is absolutely gorgeous. We hired some Kayaks from the hostel and went for a paddle up the river, got grounded on the sand in the middle and had a conversation with this old couple whilst repeatedly hitting their boat wth our Kayaks!! The plan for tonight is to go to bed with the alarm set for 1.45 so we can get up for the England game, I cannot wait!!
Tomorrow we head for Rainbow Beach which is the base for our Fraser Island trip so we'll add some updates in a week or so to let you know how we got on.
Take Care
Ben and Sara xx
