The 30th Jan. 2007:
Flew into Auckland, got picked up by Patrick Casey in, a very kind and open vet., in his Jaguar. Spent a few days with him and his family. Went to Whangamata.
The 3rd Feb. 2007:
Ben Langford picked me up in Whangamata and we went to Te Puke where the Langfords live – my home here in N.Z. They are fantastic people – loving, warm, welcoming and happy. Here I helped Clyde and Ben milk cows, swam in the river, slept in their river-hut etc.
Went hiking in Karangaheke with Sam and Ben. We went into old mines, climbed up the hill sides, slept under open sky and had a ball!
The 12th Feb. 2007:
Roadtrip to the South Island with Sam and Ben (Sam moved to Bluff). Caught the ferry at 2AM and drove down the east coast as the sun rose… Saw massive mountain lakes with crystal clear blue water, big mountains and ended up in Queenstown at Sam’s cousin Sophie’s place.
The 14th Feb. 2007:
Ben left us again, going north and Sam, Sophie, Ben (Sophie’s boyfriend) and I went canoeing on Lake Wakatipu. We sailed out to Pigeon Island and stayed in a hut.
Got up next day and drove to the bottom of Reese and Dart Valley, hiked nearly six hours to a rock biv. In Dart Valley. A stunning, but tough hike. Slept well that night! :o)Got up next day to the view of Mount Earnslaw (a big glacier) and climbed to the top of the mountain and then hiked home via the rich. I’m proud I did it now, but at the moment it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! We ran out of water and the sun was shining… It took us eleven hours to get back to the car…. Were we tired?! You bet! But the view on the mountain you could not find any were else – WOW!!!!!
The 16th Feb. 2007:
Drove strait to Bluff with Sam after the hike and slept in next morning. Bluff is the end of New Zealand – the highway stops because there is no more land! Didn’t do much except limping on my left leg….
The 18th Feb. 2007:
Visited Megan (who I met in Cape Town) in Ettrick. Here she lives on the parent’s sheep farm. They’ve got about 4000 sheep in the hills – beautiful area! We quadbiked up Mount Barker and went horseriding. Good to see her again.
The 21st Feb. 2007:
Fox Glacier… Skydive was planned… too overcast :o(
The 22nd Feb. 2007:
Skydive planned… too overcast… :o( I hope It’ll happen – it's THE reason I came out here! Moved to Franz Josef, walked up to the massive glacier… unbelievable!
The 23rd Feb. 2007:
I WENT SKYDIVING!!!!!! :oD It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Perfect weather! Could see the ocean, the mountains and Fox Glacier at one time while I was flying through the air at 200 km/h… JUBIHUUUU!!!! :o)
Later I met Jarz, a funny quadbiking guide.. gave me a good price and took me on one of his tours…. Got very wet but had heaps of fun. And suddently that evening I was indoor iceclimbing with him and his mates (for free – normally 90 NZ$!!!) – busy day huh?! :o)
Crashed on his floor after a long and awesome day!
The 24th Feb. 2007:
Took the Tranz Alpine to Christchurch – lovely scenery for a traintrip, where you can really see how different the nature is within such a small area as N.Z (the track goes from west to east) The time passed quickly.
The 27th Feb. 2007:
Flew to Rotorua after a couple of good days in Christchurch, where Met John, a English guy, with whom I’ll be traveling in Fiji and the States. Saw “Rent” (The musical Simon did last year), and just cruised around the city, being a tourist.
The 1st Mar. 2007:
Now I’m here in Te Puke, back home. Heading for Auckland tomorrow. I’ve had the best time here in New Zealand and have been very lucky with the weather. I’ve met so many lovely people and have got so many good memories in my backpack (it’s getting quite heavy now! :o)
Next stop Fiji with sand beaches, good books and relaxation…
See ya – Signe :o)
