Day 14 Hanoi
Hanoi feels so dynamic but friendly and very different to China. There are a lot less cars but many more mopeds and cyclos. The French influence is still obvious through the cafes, baguettes, the colonial architecture, and an old Vietnamese man who asked if we were lost and gave directions in French. The local people are friendly and gentle, although the police appeared from nowhere when I was being hassled by some street vendors and arrested them with no questions asked which was a bit scary. The hotel we are staying in is great and especially as we get upgraded to a suite. The toilet has to been seen to be believed - a real decorative throne. This is lucky as we both currently have upset stomachs. We have mostly spent the time soaking up the atmosphere and walking around old Hanoi. Last night we went to "Le Pub" and took part in the local pub quiz organised by some expats - vodka and tonic USD$1 so we went home pretty merry.
