well Guatamala was the country we spenr most of the trip through centrel america in. so many to see and ofcourse its was all good value for money . you got to love the pound.
Flores our first stop a nice small town that easly walk round in 30-45 mins. i say this because Flores is on a island in a middle of a lake that has a bridge connecting it to the mainland. mainreason for coming to Flores was because its where most people who are on a budget stay before going to see the Tikal ruins. as the town of tikal is expensive to stay. it was nice tho to spend it a little town like Flores. As it was still passover i was finding it hard to find food that was good to eat plus i was getting abot sick of ice cream and nuts. the answer was rasins .....yummy !!!
i spent that day mostly looking for a stupid toy then food as i thought it was more important. i was looking for a slinky , it was for the next day when we were off to climb the Tikal ruins and temples. if anyone seen Ace Venture then you will understand. with no luck i went to the center at night where i saw teenages and kids plays football and other sports. after watching for abot i tried my best spanish to ask if they fancuied a little game. so i playied some football but the highlight by far of the night was this old man on the side doing a running commetary with the big yell of GOALLLLLLLLLL ! when someone scored. exhausted and fully on rasins i headed back to the hotel . not with tho trying one last time to find my toy . i thought maybe just maybe some of these touristy shops might have them.... you never know. again in my best spanish i tried to explain what i was looking for to the shopkeeper. also did them a little drawing and demo. i looked like a idoit but they understood in the end but no sorry no slinky ....DAME. going to every shop on the way back with no luck . oh well last i tried.
Tikal Day - we got uo at 3.30 to make it to the ruins in time to see the sunrise over the forest and the ruin city. a little late arrive because of transport trouble so had to run to get to the view point which was at the top of the highest temple. i nearly died of exhaustion. we got there and it was worth it. watching the sun come up in the quite morning and listening to nature waking up . great start to the day. the guide then took us and showsed us the city. amazing . we were finished by midday and then headed back to flores where most people got some sleep. i would say that was it for the day but one thing that happened in the evening . relaxing in the hammpcks me and kerrie (on the othe group) decided to the play slappys but with a twist . swinging frpm hammocks its was great and painful. no holding back even tho she is a girl. not going to lie she wanted to punch me a couple of times.
next was Rio Dulce a small town while a lovely lake . the place we were stayied waqs supposed to be a eco¡farm . so thinking we were going to get the same as when in Belize but no . this was a nice hotel over looking the lake with a pool. only eco thin was the wooden cabins. although a little disappointed we decided to make the most of it, first time we had a pool. stupied games in the pool and the lasr night we were there i finally finshed passover. everyone felt my pain.
Contining to Antiguaa beautiful colonel town that reminded me of old Italy. surrounded by three volcanos one of which is still active made this place great. only a one day at first as we going to return there in a few days cause we were going to Panajachel. the one day was good to get a teast of it . went to the JAde facoty which was nice and found out my Mayan sign ...a bat . pretty cool what it means to. don't ask to tell you too much to explain. Â
we left our main big bag in Antigua as just took a small day pack as we would be back in two days. on the way to Panajachel we stop at the market town of Chichstenago. loads of bargins to be had with abit of haggling. sorry got to say it woman would love this place and the husbands will cry when seeing the bills. i did buy one thing tho wait for it a HAMMOCK. yes a hammock. its cool . its a chair one and as a little pocket on the side but the selling point for me was that it has a place for you to put your beer. always an important factor. 9 pounds ...Bargin i say
Panajachel another lake town which also had a market. went out both nights there one as a few drinks leading into loads and another to celebrate one of the couples on the trips getting engaged. also got a little addicted to tacos well one place. 3 tacos for less then 50p can't go wrong there . so had it 3 times in 2 days .once for breakfast.
Back to Antigua with my new purchase thinking oh crap no i have to carry it around for most part of the year. i will cost 4 times what i payied for it to send it home. that night i funny thing happend that i thought i never see. a drive by slapper. one of the girls (Kerrie) got slapped on the ass by a guy on a motor bike as we were walking home. she confessed that the last time she wore that dress it happened too. that made me go to be laughing my socks off.
last day in Antigua and Guatemala so we went to climb volcano of Pacaya the active one. me excited as a little kid went before hand to buy some mashmelows to cook over the lava. i thought maybe taking a frying pan and some eggs but that was going s little far but why not . oh well the mashmelows were fine. after an hour and half hike with the guides we got to the point of lava . hopping from hot rocks so not to burn the bottom of my shoes. the lava was only 15 yards in front of us.it was great.amazing sight to see. i happily cooked my mashmelows over some hot rocks while people were watching and some wanted to take pictures of me. no harm in a few minutes of fame. i gave some of the fans some mashmelows then after nearly burnign my toe i headed down. then back to the town we went for the change over dinner. as some people from the group were leaving and others took they places.
sad to say bye to the people we met and at the same time nice to see some new faces. nice dinner was followed by a cake to celebrate again the couples Ian and sarah's engagment plus they were leaving too. nice way to finished our time in Guatamala.
Great country so much to see lets see what the others have to offer......
