After 2 days in playa we moved on which is a good thing as we get to stay in places but not too long. the trouble was the 11 hour bus trip to the next country Belize.
we said goodbye to the coach buses of mexico and moved on to the traditional well known "chicken buses" of central america. basically they are old american school buses that have had colour graphics painted on the outside still the same inside tho. Also the reason they call it chicken bus is because the amount of people they try to squeeze in. 4/5 people on a chair for 2 people confrontable. its an experiance tho espcially in Belize as in all chicken buses play music in them and depending the the country and region the music could vary . we listened to ragge music as Belize is a english speaking country along with being a carbbain culture.
Arrived in Belize city to catch the ferry to the wonderful island of Caye Caulker. soon as we arrive on the island we noticed the stoned paved sign as the dock front "Caye Caulker Go Slow" . Didn´t really know what it meant straight away but we soon found out .
its a small island but very peaceful with no cars just bikes and golf carts to get around. one great thing what i like about is theres no americanized things there , just local businesses. the evening on when we arrived we headed for a meal at one of the local restruants . it took nearly 2 hours to get our food as we then relised the whole GO SLOW meaning .everyone is so relaxed and not in any hurry. when one of the girls started wlaking a bit one of the locals shouted saying "go slow man" . its great coming a city like london where everything is moving so fast to a place that things just come slow . although if your there for too long you could easly fall in the trap of being too relaxed so you never leave. theres people on teh island to prove it . main reason for going there was to experiance the great coral reefs that are the second best to in the ones in oz . we went snorkelling on one of the days to see the wonderful reef . took a little while for me to understand the whole nbreathing thing but i got it in the end. although i did on one of the dives swim a little far away from the boat and had to be whistled in...oops . after 3 different diving areas we headed back to the island on a 2 hour sailing while drinking run punch , listening to ragge music and watching the sunset.
nearly 3 days there we moved on the town of San ( near the Belize/guatemala boarder) . we said on a Eco farm which is very basic . small cabin with outdoor toilets and showers but i liked it. reason for going was to go caving throughj the mayan caves. for me i already done caving at school and the cost was abit much so i decided to go hiking instead, jesse went as he never done caving before a seemed to enjoy it. it was nice as it was just me on a 5 hour hike around the local area which was walking down a river . i ended up in a small village . the locals were a little shocked to find me there as i did stick out like a sore thumb ...traveller looking. they were friendly tho smiled and said hello or hola . stopped by police on the way back for i guess teh same reason but all was good. the group seemed to enjoy the story in the evening.
2 days at the eco farm came to a close as we moved to cross the boader to Guatemela. Would say it was a normal boarder crossing if it wasn´t for me forgetting my passport at the eco farm . good thing the eco farm was only 20 minutes away otherwise it could of caused loads of problems.
after all that Guatemala here we come .....
