Today I did a day tour to Montserrat and a cava winery visit. There were only 8 of us in a minibus with an English tour guide. The cloud was low as we drove up the mountains which was good since I don't like heights! But once there the clouds lifted and the views were amazing. There is a Benedictine Abbey and apparently you can stay with the monks there if you ever need to get away. We had about 3 hours there so I decided to do the hike around the mountain - sore feet and all. I think I walked for about 30 mins up a steep rocky road until I decided enough was enough and turned back. There were lots of lovely statues along the way and I sat and ate lunch on a stone wall looking out at the views. The boys choir performed in the abbey and it was standing room only (and it's a big abbey - lots of tourists) - sounded fabulous. We then took off to visit the Cordoniu winery. Amazing place - founded in 1551. They make mostly cava - Spanish champagne - and it was very very nice. The tour took us underground through some of the 38 kms of tunnels! We walked some parts and were driven around in a little train for others. If you ever go to Barcelona I highly recommend this tour. Another great day in Barcelona!!
