This hotel has free coffee and muffins in the foyer each morning so that saved me having to find somewhere for breakfast and I headed straight to Old Montreal. It was cold but not freezing and I only felt it when the wind blew - I was well rugged up so I was ok.
I went to an old building called Marche Bonsecours which has a series of shops and an Inuit art display. I spent quite a while in there and really enjoyed the art.
If you ever come here make sure you wear good walking shoes as the cobbled roads and uneven footpaths would be hard to walk on in anything else.
After walking around Old Montreal all morning I decided to spend the afternoon looking around the area north and west of my hotel. So off I went with my trusty map and had no problems navigating around. I was pretty hungry by early afternoon so I stopped at a nice Italian restaurant and had a beautiful lunch. I decided I would eat a good lunch and a snack for dinner - that way I could walk it off in the afternoon! The walking was hard work at times as there was a lot of uphill work, but there was a lot to see. I went into a couple of old churches - they are all quite different and the architecture is amazing.
On the way back to my hotel I was feeling a bit sore and tired - until I stumbled across the underground shops that is. I had heard they have heaps of these so that people can shop in winter when it's about minus 10deg!! You just have to remember where you entered if you want to go out the same way - its like a rabbit warren and I only explored a bit of it.
So back to the hotel for an early night - really early start tomorrow - the taxi will be here at 5.30! On to Victoria via Toronto (just to change planes) but a lot of flying but with the time difference I will be there before lunch - I will be struggling by tomorrow night!
