It has been a while since we last blogged, we have been without mobile phone or internet/wi-fi. Please check out our recent stuff. We had to get to Reckong Peo from Chitkul to obtain our inner line permit. As the towns we planned to visit in the Himalayas are close to the Tibetan border, the Indo-Tibetan Border police like to keep a close eye on foreigners and so require a permit. The pass had to be bought through a tourist agency and was 350Rps each for a 14 day permit. Peo has great views but not a lot else to promote it, it is a grubby town with a lot of barking dogs. We stayed at the Cafeteria hotel for 450Rp. Our only consolation of this necessary overnight stop was the cheap booze at Mehfil bar and restaurant in the Bazaar. I slept very well through the barking (must have been the vodka) but Paul didn't. We were up before 6 and hitched a ride from a local truck driver 1-2 kms up the hill to the bus stand, we had agreed 50 Rps but he still tried the old "I meant 100Rps", his mate even tried 200RPs - unlucky! We had checked the HPRTc bus website and had taken a photo of the bus stand timetable and planned to get the 07:30 bus to Nako, we arrived at 06:25, so we could definitely get a seat. We were told that the only bus that day to Nako was leaving in 5 minutes - the times have changed. The bus was rammed, after standing for a while I was offered a seat but Paul had to do a crucifix stance for several hours....
