It has been a while since we last blogged, we have been without mobile phone or internet/wi-fi. Please check out our recent stuff. Tabo is kind of like a deserted English new town set on a flat valley floor overshadowed by 5000m wind blasted lunaresque mountains. This stop was to break up the journey and a fellow traveller had recommended it. We stayed at Siddarth GHouse (600Rp) close to the bus stand which was a brand new place and very clean. The restaurant had an extensive menu, none of which was available unfortunately so we headed off to the Ajantha Dhaba. The Dhaba (snack place) was great - it had the exact same menu as our Tibetan Kitchen in Nako and we stocked up on Tibetan bread and Veg Fried, which was like a delicious veg stew. We were at Tabo for only one day, which is about enough to visit the moutain hermit caves with a nearby mud brick temple with similar murals to the ones in Nako. A local woman showed us the hiding place for the key to the entrance doors of the candle-lit shrine. We also visited the ancient Tabo monastery in the town including the 996AD Golden Temple - a mud shed with similar contemporary murals to the others mentioned. Paul asked if he could take photos but was told he needed a permit (available from Shimla 350kms 20hour drive away). Every attempt at bribery was lost on the official at the temple - a credit to new India!!! After grabbing our veg stew and Tibetan bread we headed for Kaza in the Spiti valley, the next stop on the Tribal circuit.
