Happy holidays to those of you about to set off! And hello again, from Siem Reap! We have had a day off from Templing today, although we woke up around 5:30 am. We Had an early breakfast - I had banana pancakes with honey..yum! and Sheryl had fruit salad - colurful, tasty and healthy! Then we went exploring. We visited (on the Wat Bo side of the river) a small private house which a gent called Dy Proeung has built a mini Angkor Wat! See our pictures - a real labour of love and puts the Temple complex in context. We then continued on to the northern part of Siem Reap river and found a large local market - local because were NOT approached once by Tuk-Tuk drivers or vendors at stalls! Many of the 'shops' (which also double as homes) were built part on land part on stilts IN the River! It looked more of a hand-to-mouth existence rather like the outlying areas of Banteay Srei (albeit in a different way) than Siem Reap town centre (see my pictures). Later on we grabbed some fruit smoothies at Psar Chas based around the old local Market - cheap and sooooo very refreshing and tasty! They even put the fans on to cool us as it is still 35 degrees here. On the subject of weather - Now in Cambodia is the wet season, However, it has only rained twice - once for an hour then dried up fast - another for maybe 15 mins again drying almost immediately...NOT what we in the UK expect of rain or of a 'wet season'! We went off to Mandalay Inn for a brief drink and relax (ie. sleep in our air-con room). We sorted mundane issues such as laundry and a trip to Roluos (our last visit to the temples) for tomorrow am and have now booked a 10 hour bus ride (overnight) from SR to Sinhoukville (coastal Cambodia) for a beach break (and hopefully some breeze!!) tomorrow late on. We then plan to cross the Cambodia-Thai border and now meet our man in Pattaya (not Bangkok) then we will get to Bangkok for the train to Malaysia and on to Indonesia..... speak soon!
