We made it to London! And as we did, our theme continued. Our train was delayed 45 minutes because a signal box was broken on a track ahead. So we got into London a bit later than we expected. But, if there is one thing we have had to learn with this trip, it's to roll with the punches.
Otherwise, I have to say, so far if there is one city that we have visited that had it all together, it's London. The subways are more efficient, they have week long passes to ride the subway (unlike Paris where you have to buy a ticket for EVERY transfer), the subways are nicer as are the train stations themselves. It made traveling to our hotel so easy.
The hotel is really great overall. We (surprisingly) have our own bathroom. It is tiny and the shower is a little touchy, but hey, we'll take it! The room is small and on the first floor (which for us Americans, is the second floor) and it has a little deck that looks out the front of the hotel.
We are staying really close to Buckingham Palace, plus really close to a lot of Pubs and restaurants. So after getting settled into our hotel, we decided to walk to the Palace to get a glimpse. Unfortunately, we had missed the changing of the guard yesterday, and the next time they do it is tomorrow. So we will have to wait.
We walked the palace walls and took in London. Or at least the small part of it we were seeing.
After our stroll, we walked to find a pub to grab a beer and a bite to eat. As you can see from the pictures, I ordered some fish and chips, and they definitely lived up to what I expected.
After dinner we bounced around to another pub or two, but I was so tired, so we called it a night a little early, or at least I did. Kevin sat on our little deck while I fell asleep at 11pm and slept through until 8:30 am when Kevin's alarms woke us up. I probably could have slept for another hour or two. All the traveling and sight seeing has really caught up with me. But I am persistent and will push on.
What's rally great, is our hotel comes with a traditional style English breakfast. One egg, one sausage, One piece of bacon, beans, toast, tea or coffee and orange juice. It's a pretty hearty breakfast for sure. Since I am now in England, I have decided to not drink coffee and drink the tea instead. (When in Rome, right?)
I hate to admit it, but I already miss the espresso from all our other stops. But maybe that will change by the end of our stay.
