Yesterday was the day to check out of our b&b in Rome and make the trek over to Venice.
We allowed ourselves to sleep in a little later than the other mornings, which was much needed, before packing up our suitcases. Our train to Venice did not leave until 4:30, so we were able to fit one more attraction in before making our way over to the train station. So we decided to visit Castel Sant' Angelo.
That was a really neat experience. Aside from the castle itself it displayed a ton of art from back as far as 500 BC!
After we had finished, we stopped to grab some salami sandwiches before heading back to the b&b to pickup our luggage.
We strapped our suitcases on our backs and walked to the nearest metro and made way to the train station.
After a train ride that lasted a few hours we finally arrived in Venice.
It was so beautiful walking out of the train station and seeing the water and feeling the cool air (a nice change from Rome which was pretty hit everyday) and watching all the couples on their romantic night on the town.
And then the reality of trying to find our hotel crashed down. Wow, Venice is confusing. Again, no cellular service meant, major difficulties finding our way. This time, the directions and map screen shots i had prepared prior to our departure were not helpful at all.
After a long while of trying to make Sense of these directions standing in the middle of Campo Santa Margherita, we noticed one of the restaurants advertised free wifi. So we sat down, drank a beer (probably the largest "medium" beer I have seen in my entire life) and used their wifi.
What we realized is that google maps had all wrong street names. My phone however has the Tom map, which we were able to pull up, and it was actually correct.
So we drank down our big gulp sized beers and were on our way again. In 20 minutes, Kevin navigated us to our hotel with no problem.
After getting all checked in, it was now 10:15 in the evening and our stomachs were rumbling. So we went to a little cafe downstairs and shared a spaghetti and headed back up to our room.
I have to say, we were definitely spoiled in Rome. Our room in Venice is tiny. It does have its own sink in the room, but we share a (little) bathroom with 2 other rooms. But there is a separate bathroom with only a shower for us all to share in addition to the first one, which is a full bathroom, so it's not terrible.
We actually have the luxury of having a very easy and open schedule, unlike in Rome, so we are in no hurry. We plan on taking he time to sleep in, relax and just enjoy being in Venice.

CA Ibanez Take a load off! Venice is super easy to get disoriented in becuase is so fun walking around, but all the alleys and passageways make it suuuper easy to get lost! take a quick ferry to Murano...a fun little island where they blow glass.
