So after months of planning and preparing here I am. Kathmandu, the bustling centre of Nepal, rich with animals roaming the streets, the constant sound of car horns and suprisingly decent air conditioning. Well with a 30degree temperature what more can you ask for. It seems to be a very tame city, large boulevards, temples, people walking with huge bags on their backs, but yet rather serene at the same time, I think I have to start realising that the luxuries that I am used to are non-existent here.
Even the Cab that picked me up from the hotel, they carried my bags, they opened doors for me, constantly referring to me as sir, it was...different to say the least. Arriving at the hotel, I did not lift a finger, life really is different here.
I'm planning to take a small wonder through the tourist district, it looks very Hong Kong-esque(from what I know of Hong Kong from films) with huge signs pearing out from every corner of the streets telling you explicity what is available. Its reassuring to see so much English. Belive me.
While walking around the Thamel district, the best thing possible was not to be approached as if I was a tourist. Luckily, my chocolate brown skin saved me, in that unless I had my huge backpack on, I was just considered to be a local! Score! The downside of Kathmandu is the dust! It's such a dusty city, no wonder everyone walks around with Nurse masks on, now I think about it, it might actually be a good investment!
