This blog is seriously outdated, so I figured I really need to update it. In the space of my last update from Budapest, which actually wasn't in Budapest come to think about it, I have been in Vienna, Venice, Munich, Prague and I sit writing this at my friends house in Leipzig. Thanks a lot for letting us stay here Julia!!!! You get a Blog mention, und velleicht morgen wurde ich deutsch mit dir sprechen.
So where do I begin, Venice.
Venice is one of these cities that its really hard to fathom the concept of its existence. Firstly, it is the largest car free zone in the world. Which is a miracle in its own right. But to walk along the narrow streets, to think there is a street at the end but realise it is a canal, is an experience of its own. Venice really is a beautiful city, and although lathered with the tourist traps of Gondola's, even taking a waterbus through the city, you see some amazing sites. A city on water, a real Atlantis even.
The foundations of the city is truly amazing in my eyes. Wood originally taken from Albania and Serbia amongs other places, although leaving a barren land behind, created a metropolis of its own. When wood is under water, apparently it becomes cement like, and that is what is holding up Venice. Large wooden blocks just shoved into the water until it hit earth. That is cool, and with the City being a Unesco World Heritage Site in its own right, Venice is truly a city to visit again and again.
I will go again, probably even take a Gondola ride. But hopefully next time, I'll be with someone else.
Preferably not a guy.
Bye for now.
