Pompei is actually a lot more than ruins, and it reallly was an awesome place to visit, but in all honesty, it was really hard to envisage that this place used to be an entire city. Beneath the rocks, grass and footprints of avid historians, a city thrives on Roman values, beliefs and concepts. The surrounding view of Pompei is stupendous as Mike's Guide Book might say, but it really did feel like you became a part of history.
The weird concept with Pompei, is the actual magnitude of the Volcano. Vesuvius is far away from the city, but it's incredible how some places are so perfectly preserved with frescos and painted walls, while others are piles of bricks. Columns on the ground, and a life, a family, a home, wiped away from the face of the earth. Truly it does show just how powerful God or Mother Nature (Whichever you believe caused that destruction) really is.
In all honesty, it does question...If a city like Pompei can be destroyed by a Volcano, then maybe Atlantis did exist. Maybe the Minotaurs Lair did too. Myths and Legends all have a seed in reality, so what really did exist? Some may call me crazy, some may call me a sucker to conspiracy theories, but visit Pompei, and you just might fall into the neverending pit of imagination.
History is there to be envisaged.
