A gruelling 19 hour ferry, a town called Patras which is undoubtedly one of the worst ferry ports in the world (My knowledge of this is rather limited so feel free to correct me!), landed us with a new companion, Australian Marlon and the 'bustling' city of Athens.
At night it really was nothing spectacular. Road signs with triangles as letters and Omega and Pi Signs. I mean really, what is going on. Luckily the Athenians are rather nice in placing English translation next to the words so amongst the constant 'How on earth does that say Acropolis', we did end up manage to locate our rather Lavish Youth Hostel Hotel.
Athens in the morning was incredible. The weather was great, sunny but not too hot, and involved a nice morning climb up the mountain Ayios Yeoryios where the view of Athens was incredible. Yet the overwhelming sight within the city is by far the Acropolis, dominating the central view.
It is a bit odd how I find ruined buildings absolutely incredible, but there is a certain aura that emanates from them, which when you take in and basque in, you really get the feeling of how life could have been. The Temple of the Olympian Zeus and Hadrians arch stood in the shadows of the grand Acropolis, but it honestly was so intriguing to see.
The Acropolis and Ancient Agora was superb. To understand how this was the central city of Athens, to see the alleged site where Posiedon and Athena took to batttle for dominance. It was a marvel. Words still don't even express how great it is to be in the shadows and stand on the stones of such Ancient Monuments, and hopefully once I find a computer with Java I can upload more fictures.
