Mana pools, first outside camp
Today started with an early wake up call, coffee and game drive then delicious cooked breakfast before we were back on the river. From the road we saw elephant, Impala & waterbuck in the distance. The game seems a bit sparse. Wow, today did not disappoint!!!!! Up close & personal with many hippo & crocodile, many bird sightings plus walking through the bush & being rewarded by getting up really close to elephants raising themselves on their hind legs to grab the top branches of Acacia trees and using their brute strength to shake the trees so that the dried fruit pods fall (elephant ice creams) is how they are described.
A short paddle down the river and we stopped for an amazing lunch (pizza & 2 different types of salad) plus muffins and of course the chilled beer & soft drinks etc too - we were located on a sandbank perched on camp stools in the water. Very cool!!!!
The afternoon slipped by on the water & just as we arrived at the camp a lone elephant munching through the weeds allowed us to get up really close. He mock charged us before returning to his munching. Our guide gives us suggestions and options all the time & now it was a cuppa then game drive to see if we could find the mating lions that have been seen? Of course we leapt at the opportunity so off we went ... Other vehicles were already there and all we could see was the waving tips of their tails. Simi suggested we walk in & try and get closer. Unfortunately we had no luck but great fun trying.
We returned to camp in time for sundowners watching a typical African sunset.
Tonight we are in a bush camp assembled on the riverbank. We have our own tent with double bed plus ensuite & shower ( all canvas constructions). When required the staff fill the shower can with water warmed on the open fire so we can have an amazing warm shower. Our camp chairs are placed around a campfire & our dining table is set under the stars. Absolute magic ... Especially when you consider that every item is brought in, assembled and then disassembled the next morning.
Another gourmet 3 course meal with our family... Creating very special memories
