Hey there
So after a few chilled out days in the East it was time to get back on a big bus and make our way to River Valley.En route we had a picnic lunch in the Tongariro National Park. We also went on a two hour walk through native bush, waterfalls and braving the cool mountain streams of this alpine volcanic region. During this time we found a new friend - an 18 year old called Charlie from Brighton.Charlie is without doubt one of the most unique people I have ever met!! He is frightfully posh, went to private school, is due to start his medical degree at Oxford in the Autumn and has appeared on Question Time!! A very entertaining young man with very strong views!!
In the afternoon we arrived at the ultimate adventure lodge - River Valley, situated amongst towering cliffs and bush-clad hills. We chilled out for a few hours before having the best roast dinner ever in the evening!! Charlie,Callum and myself decided to sit with some random people for dinner rather than people from the bus and this was a great move.We shared our table with a family from Wellington and an awesome couple (Joe and Kelly) from London who were extremely funny. The food was absolutely out of this world, the best meal I've had since leaving home in November. And I talked Charlie into sharing a pudding with me so we had fudge cake and ice-cream!! Yummy!!
We spent the rest of the evening drinking with Joe and Kelly but our evening came to an abrupt end when some young local lads arrived and began checking us out!! The p**** express (as they called it) had arrived in town and they were looking for some action!! At this point, us girls decided to call it a night and left the lads fighting over the remaining chicks at the table!!
The next day after a morning of chilling out and running away from wasps we set off for Wellington. For those who don't' know Wellington is the capital of NZ and I'm gutted I didn't have more time there. We literally arrived at 6pm and set off the next day at 7am.However we did make the most of our evening and as it was Easter Saturday we decided to buy some bunny ears and wear them out!! We went to the hostel bar and all ended up pretty wasted drinking cheap versions of barcadi breezers!! Charlotte was dancing like a mad woman and Rosie and I ended up having a Chinese midnight munch out which to this day I don't actually remember!!!
The next morning we had to be up and out of the hostel by 7am in order to catch the ferry across to the South Island. We were horrified to hear team Hawaii was on the bus…that's right you hear her before you see her!! We managed to escape and got settled in the reclining chairs, taking in the scenery.A Chinese dude dressed up as the Easter Bunny came round giving us free Easter eggs, was very bizarre and whilst the rest of the troops slept I felt like I was going to puke every time I shut my eyes. After two hours of feeling awful I just about made it to the loo in time and after being ill felt a lot better.En route to Nelson we did some free wine tasting!! Not an ideal day for it but who am I to turn my nose up at free alcohol. We had a lovely lunch by the river and us girls had ice creams!! We laughed so much posing for photos with ice-cream all over our faces!!! I'll always look back on that afternoon with fond memories!!
Once in Nelson we checked in, and spent some time doing free beer tasting!! What a day!! The girls and I had fish and chips for tea before heading to Nelson Spiritualist Church. Most of you know that I often go to a spiritualist Church at home and seeing as it was Easter day and it had been a while I decided to go along and the girls joined me.It was a really lovely service, and Charlotte even got a message from her great grandmother which was a nice surprise. It was a nice way to spend our last evening together for a week or so.
I unfortunately had to leave in the morning to Westport as it was a case of either getting on that bus or waiting 5 days for another one and with such a short timeframe to explore NZ I had no choice but to go.
So Monday Morning Charlie and I set off leaving Callum, Charlotte and Sophie behind…and so began the worst week I've had since leaving England. To be continued......
