Hey guys
So, Charlotte and I left Queenstown on Friday Morning and began our journey to Christchurch. My last night with Callum, Charlotte & Sophie wasn't a wild one, but we spent the whole night laughing. I hadn't laughed that much since leaving them on Easter Monday and it felt great to be back with close friends.
Christchurch as you know is where I live back in England so I had always looked forward to seeing the NZ version and I wasn't disappointed. Our hostel was on Cathedral Square which is beautiful and I immediately felt at home here.
We've had a couple of very quiet nights here in Christchurch. Yesterday we went to Kaikoura for the day to go whale/dolphin watching but unfortunately due to the bad weather the trip was cancelled. Still we made the best of our time in Kaikoura and enjoyed exploring the town, as well as going to a seal colony.
I had a funny experience on Friday night! The internet café here at the hostel wouldn't let me open my email account and I needed to sort stuff out for Fiji so I pleaded with the guys on reception to let me use one of their PCs. The condition was that I could providing I answered any questions from backpackers that approached me!! I had to tell people where the postbox was, give advice on which shuttle busses to get, turn people away as the hostel was fully booked, but it was a great hour and gave me an insight into the life of a receptionist at a hostel!!
Today we went on the Gondola ride which gave us 360 degree views of Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains and Lyttelton Harbour. Then we shopped til we dropped and this evening we've been to a Jazz Festival in Christchurch Cathedral.
The evening was called 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' and that was the first song we sang. Some of you may know this song is very dear to me as we played it at my Nan's funeral, and although I'm always emotional whenever I hear it, it also makes me think of all the happy times we shared together and attending the service was a really nice way to spend my last night in NZ.
But of course the last night in any country is not complete without some really good grub!! And funnily enough my last meal in NZ was a curry, the same as my last meal in Australia.Sophie arrived from Queenstown earlier on today and Charlotte's friend Lucy who is lovely joined us too. It was a great meal and a really nice way to spend my last night.I'm really sad to be leaving the girls but know we'll be meeting up once back home.
I'm up at 4am tomorrow and flying to Fiji, where I'm meeting Joe, (or cardi boy as most of you know him!!) We hooked up at my leaving party and met up a couple of times before I left the country 5 months ago!! It will be lovely to see a familiar face and I'm sure we'll have a great time together in paradise!!Will let you know how it all goes in a couple of weeks time!! Ooooooooo, it's like blind date all over again…and here's our Graham with a quick reminder!!
Finally I'd like to say Congratulations to my much loved friends Rachel and Mike on the birth of their beautiful baby girl this morning……Can't wait to meet her and see you guys in May.
Until next time take care of yourselves and each other! xxxxx Sweet as Bro!!
