Weekends are free at Camps- so today we went to Mindo, which is about an hour away, still part of the Cloud Forest.
Mindo is a cute little town- exactly how I imagined a typical Ecuadorian town to look. All the locals gather around the main square, there are a few stray dogs here and there and some small home run restaurants. There's plenty to do for such a small town, such as rafting, tubing, zip lining.
The 'hostel' we stayed at is lovely and far too beautiful to be called a hostel! It's a lovely wooden cabin type place overlooking the river.
After settling in and having my first beer of the trip we had a look around and checked out the activities on offer. We decided on Tubing, which basically consists of goin down the river on a ruber inner tube. Great fun!! We even spotted a few big lizards along the river.
The down side was that we got eaten alive by Mozzies!
The evening was much more relaxing, sat beside the river with a beer watching the hummingbirds. I can see why Ecuador is such a big destination for bird watchers.
