Hey guys,
So firstly just to let you know in case you were wondering, we didn't fix our clothes from the unexpected dying incident, the woman at the laundrette couldn't get the colour out of them which sucks but oh well.. I mean I know a lot of you really care about that!!
So the day after the boxing day sales Seems had to go back to work, the weather picked up a bit so Sheens went to the park to catch some rays (it's alright for some). The two Belgians that were living with us moved out on the 29thDecember and we had two French people move in, they're just like the Germans a male and female who aren't dating.Their English is very bad and it's so difficult to communicate with them but we get by.
Another exciting activity that we have booked is to go to Surf Camp next weekend (the 23rd to the 25th) we leave on the Friday night and then have the weekend to surf, our old flatmate Jon had recommended the RipCurl sponsored company so we are looking forward to that, we think we will pretty bad at this but hey we have to give it a go!! Seems just keeps thinking that with her weedy arms she won't be able to actually get from a horizontal position to a vertical one.. but we shall see!
Our New Years Eve was amazing, we spent the day window shopping in lots of cool vintage shops and then went on the hunt for some alcohol for Seems. We literally spent the whole afternoon trying to find some Apple Sourz to take into the city to drink in the evening because we were allowed to drink on the streets (whoop whoop) and taking wine would be icky because it would get all warm. Eventually after going into about seven liquor shops we found some, she was ecstatic and she couldn't hide her enthusiasm from everyone inside the shop. The guy behind the counter was laughing at how excited she was and told her it was going to be $200, erm I don't think so, he said it was only because she reacted like that, but anyways we paid $20 for it and then went for a chillax at home.
Seems then heard from her friend Kat (who she met from camp) who said she was coming to the city for the evening. Our original plan was see the fireworks at the Harbour, but when Kat called and said she was nearby we thought we would go and meet her before we went to the city. She was at a place called Rushcutters Bay which is in walking distance to our house, so we met Kat and saw she had an amazing view of the Harbour Bridge where the fireworks go off, so we decided to stay there for the night. It was great there, there were so many people (mostly foreigners) that had come more prepared then we were, they had proper elaborate picnic hampers with champagne, quiche, and all the exciting trimmings like ferrero rochers with them. If we had known we were going to stay there for the evening we would have packed one for ourselves. The lack of food was not a good idea, and during the night we started to get hungry so Kat befriended a lovely gay man and coaxed some bread from him, he obliged and then brought over plates of antipasto, it was yummy.
Sydney have two fireworks displays one at 9pm which is known as the family ones and then the real ones at midnight, the family ones were great, we were all ooohing and ahhhhhhhing at the right time. As we took our own alcohol we got through a fair amount, Shenel thought it would be funny to get a trolley and take Sheens for a ride in it, she left Sheens with some randoms and said 'just give her a drink every 10 mins and she won't bite' I don't think the randoms were amused so we went back to our little patch and Sheens thought it was about time she got out so climbed out and the trolley came with her, she styled it very well, she didn't fall but did trap her finger under it, at the time the pain was so much she thought she broke it (over exaggerated drunkenness here) but luckily it wasn't. So then midnight came and the fireworks were amazing, they spent $15 million for a 12 minute show, and the country is in a recession, who knows the logic?!
Anyways all in all fun times were had by all.
Seems had to work the next day, lucky for her she doesn't get hangovers (the fact that it was triple time and a half for 6 hours work, where it was dead enticed her a bit). I don't think she was amused when Sheens and Shenel were still in their PJs when she got back!!
That weekend of the 3rd January was Seema's first whole one off since we got here so we thought we would have a tourist weekend, we spent the Saturday going to Paddington Market and then to Bondi for some shopping and the Sunday at Paddy's Market and then at the Sydney Aquarium, it was very cool, we got to see some sharks and penguins and all the fish from Finding Nemo. And the day was so hot and we were in Darling Harbour so we thought it would be nice and appropriate to have Fish and Chips on the harbour, I know what most of you are thinking, that we don't eat fish, well we normally don't but we thought hey 'when in Rome' it wasn't too bad but I don't think either of us is going to have it again for a long time.
The next week Sheens started her new job as an admin assistant, it is the most mundane job ever but hey it's for 3 months and it's an easy day.
So the week went with work, fun times, but Seems has managed to get every Saturday off now which is good, so on the 10th we went to the Sydney Wildlife centre. It was so cool, Seems touched some beetles and stick insects, we saw the Koala's and then we both touched a black headed python, it felt very weird. We were pretty impressed with ourselves. That evening we went to the opening of the Sydney Festival they have on. There are 12 stages all around Sydney and for the next three weeks there are events going on some free and some with tickets, the first night was free, so we took advantage. We saw and heard some very cool music, they closed at 11pm as it is right in the middle of the city, so we came home. On the way home walking past apartment blocks someone thought it would be funny to throw water balloons on us, it was actually funny, we thought it was starting to rain!! (Seems thought that the world was breaking.. haha) Anyways when we got back home Seems was tired and had to sleep as she had to work the next day but Sheens and Shenel went back out to a club, had a few drinks and danced the night away.
So this weekend we are planning on going to a photography exhibition about the 1960's and then on those big red tourist buses around the city.. how very exciting.
