Ok so it has been a while... Sorry, we haven't had much to report so thought we would wait until there was something to report back!!
Ok so Sheens got that permanent job, she is a recruitment consultant for SKILLED, she finds casual staff for a DVD packing factory. She has to interview people looking for a job as well as make sure there are enough people on the shifts. She works with one other girl who is from Melbourne. She has been out a few times with her and a few of the permanent staff who seem ok but are not as sociable as people who she has worked with before (you know who are hehe). She is lucky enough to have a Monday to Friday job and her hours are only 10-16. She would have killed for a job like that at home.
So it has pretty much been work with us, Seems has been working 2 jobs and has been getting very early shifts at the coffee shop, but is hating it. So on Friday (21st) she quit. She is still working at Build A Bear so still has some income and is hoping that the amount of shifts she has will increase as Christmas is a coming!!
So we have joined our local cinema club, we get discounts and a couple of free tickets, so that's cool. And to make it even better it is about a 5 minute walk from our house. Seems also found an outdoor cinema that starts in December, you can take your own alcohol and blankets to sit on, I think we will be visiting that.
Seems had her first Saturday (16th) off since we got here so we decided to have a fun weekend, the plan was to go out Friday and then have our first tourist day, however it ended up thunder storming a lot L. From Friday night at about 7pm the thunder and lightning started with no rain and the half an hour later the rain poured for the rest of the evening, so we decided to stay in with a film and some chocolate. I mean it sounds bad but the rain was just so bad that there was no way we were going out.
So we had planned to go the Zoo on Saturday but we woke up to more rain, I mean I thought we left the bad weather at home!! It sucks!! The rain finally cleared up so we thought we would risk it and leave the house. We took our first ferry ride to Taronga Pier where we went to the Zoo. It was the windiest journey we had in a while but had a great view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The Zoo was great and the Sky Train there also gave us a great view of the city skyline. We wanted to see a Tasmanian Devil but it was hiding so we were a bit disappointed. We both also wanted to see the Penguins but they were hiding as well and only came out at feeding time and we missed that.
We then had our first Indian meal, Sheens cooked, NOT, well she was meant too but couldn't really be bothered, so we went to a restaurant. The plan was to then go out afterwards but the rain started again, heavily so a film at home was the winner again. We are beginning to think that whoever didn't want us to come away has jinxed the weather here so we don't go out and enjoy ourselves.
The next week went with work, our evenings are pretty much at home for the moment, it is still pretty cold, well warmer than at home but still. So after the Indian meal at the restaurant Sheens decided to cook at home, she made chicken curry and green beans. It tasted just like home, well that's what Seems said so she was happy with that. There was a soggy rice situation but we sorted that out with extra naan bread!! Then Seems reciprocated with cooking Tacos the next day!! It was yummy, I think our culinary skills have increased since being here; it does suck not having someone else to cook for us every night though!!
So on the street parallel to us there are lots of bars and restaurants so on Friday (21st) we tried the Tapas bar and it was yummylicious, it is quite bad that there are so many nice places to eat nearby we are tempted to eat at all of them!! I think we might make that our goal before we leave this house!!
On Saturday (21st) Seems had the day off again and the sun was out so we decided to take advantage of it, we bought a travel pass which allowed us unlimited access on the train, ferries and buses. We took the ferry out to Manly which is famous for its beach but the sun was deceiving so we didn't stay long, the weather took a turn for the worse the grey clouds were hanging over us and the wind speeds increased!! So we didn't really stay on Manly but the ferry ride in and out of the Harbour was very picturesque. We went back in the evening to get some cool pictures at night as well but we didn't have a tripod with so they didn't come out very well. We think that might be a next purchase for us.
That evening we then met our housemate in a place call The Argyle, an amazing building that should be somewhere where weddings should happen. A good time was had by all. The shots were flowing as well as the mojitos, but Seems had to be at work the next day at 10am and we didn't get back until 2am. We were then asked by our very quiet housemates to stop talking. They have the room next to the living room and we weren't exactly the quietest we could have been but it was the first time we had done that since moving in and they didn't even have to work on the Sunday, I think that explains their personality. Seems was not amused by that comment as they come in sometimes and shower at 1am and her room is right next to the bathroom so that wakes her up and she never complained about that!! PAH!
So over the next few weeks until Christmas we're pretty much gonna be working nonstop to get some monies and then come January fun times can be had like going to surf camp, the blue mountains and lots of other touristy things like the Sydney tower which includes a sky walk, going to the aquarium, the wildlife centre and the a harbour cruise.
Until next time........
