This morning we drove to the Terracotta Warriors site, when we entered we watched a short film giving background information on the Emperor they were created for and the people who found them whilst digging for a well in 1974. Once it finished we made our way to Pit 1 where the majority of the Warriors were. On entering I got goose bumps, they are truly fascinating!! The film had said only 7,000 have been found and it took 720,000 people to build them! Different people making different parts. Every single face is different. The first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty believed he could continue his reign in the afterlife so wanted a whole army of Warriors buried with him when he died. Most holding actual real weapons with some of them even on horses. In one of the pits there was a Warrior in a glass case which still had some of the original paint work on its back - they're over 2000 years old, how crazy is that! They are such a recent discovery. Definitely something to visit in your life time. The eigth wonder of the world 100%. Today especially I wished my dad was here in China with me because I know he would really love to see this! There is an unnatural shaped hill a short distance from the site which is believed to be where the mausoleum of the Emperor is, but the Chinese Government has forbidden anyone to dig there. Who knows what other gems could be buried beneath there. Our tour guide said maybe when the Government changes they may be able to. What an exciting time that would be if it happened.
The group went out for dinner in the evening - I had another tofu dish but this time it was horrible! So soft it felt like I was swallowing slugs! It is kind of difficult for me to eat here.
On the way back it poured down, all taxi's on the road were taken so we got drenched!
