Hi guys. This is the beginning of my journel. Delhi was the first port of call on our journey. When arriving in Delhi we had no accomadation & had no idea what to expect! We came out the international airport & the smell was overwelming. It was horrible, not something i have not been used to. There are touts everywhere, crowds of them trying to get you to go with them to hotels etc.... which to begin with was a little frightening, especially with this being our first stop.
We were trying to book a flight to Amristsar as we were going to stay with a family there but the lack of english was making this quite difficult! We spoke to a tout who took us to a taxi and arranged for him to take us to a travel agents in Delhi. They clearly get commision for this. The taxi driver spoke a little english so was chatting asking the usual sort of questions, where do u come from etc.... He also moved his mirror so he could get a good view of me in the back which was not to comfertable but is to be expected when u are westerner. He was a total chancer, asking Martin (my boyfriend) to swap mobile phomes with him. He wanted to swap his old polophonic phone lol When driving through the motorway there is 3 lanes however the cars in India do not use these lanes. There is around 8 lanes of drivers going the same way nipping in & out of spaces & tooting their horns constantly. Lots of homeless people live at the side of the motorway & along the journey we had lots of beggers coming to the car window as soon as the car stopped. When driving through the city of Delhi i was scared. It just seemed so busy & so dirty. I knew at that point that i didn't want to stay there for a long time!
When we arrived at the travel agents, again cheeky taxi driver was givin a tip & was asking for more but we told him NO as what we had givin him was more than enough. Total chancer! We booked everything through the travel agent however we did pay a little more than we should have. 1 night accomadation in Delhi, Driver to the aiport in the early hrs to go to Amritsar, flights to Amritsar & return. A driver to Agra hotel for 1 night, driver to Jaipur, hotel for 2 nights then Driver back to Delhi.
We asked for 3 * accomadation or above however if anyone plans on going to India, please remember that this is not simialr to your hotels back home. The hotel we stayed in was basic but clean. As we were only staying 1 night it was fine, especially when you are jet lagged. We fell asleep & did not get to see any sights. Exept from when we went to dinner around the corner. Again the smell, allayways, lots of noise, loads of people. As we were white u get stared at all the time which is something we got very used to in our time spent in India.
We got up during the night, as we had to leave at 3am to go to the airport for our flight to Amristar. I was extremely happy to be leaving Delhi!!!!
