Early Wednesday morning, Shawn and I got up at early to meet our tour shuttle at 7 - they drove us out to a place called Hanauma Bay, which is famous for its reefs and 400 different species of fish. Prior to snorkeling, it is mandatory for all visitors to watch an 8-minute video about the reef, which explains the history and the environment, but more importantly, teaches people about helping to protect the reef and not interfering with the natural habitat. After accidentally breathing in salt water through my nose, I took a break on the beach while Shawn continued. We were there for a little over an hour, then headed back to our shuttle and back to the hotel. Shawn and I spent the rest of the day at Hawaiian Waters, which is a water park, and had some really fun, and some scary, water rides. It was nice to play around in some fresh water again and not worry about getting hurt by any waves, etc. so this was more of a relaxing day for us. After the water park, we stopped by Chilli's for supper and then a big outlet centre on the way back to Waikiki, which had tons of really awesome designer shops like BCBG and Banana Republic, and Shawn and I had some fun buying some new outfits. Then we finally made it into Waikiki around 9pm, and checked into our 2nd hotel, the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. We hadn't seen the East side of Waikiki before, and it was SO happening! People staying up past 9, TONS of people walking around the streets, street performers and so much to look at - we spent several hours walking around the streets, had some drinks, and had our first really late night in Hawaii (wow, we stayed up past midnight!). My favourite part was seing a robot master - if you know me well, you know how much I love the robot, so I thought it was hilarious when we saw a guy dressed up and even sounding like a robot - he was awesome.
Our hotel was amazing - I got us a free night at this $350/night hotel using my Sheraton points and they automatically upgraded our room and gave us a perfect view of the city and ocean!
The following day was our last day in Hawaii - we were a little sad, but wanted to make the most of it. We slept in, for the FIRST time since our arrival (and by sleeping in, we mean until 1pm Regina time), then we got ready and walked around Waikiki. We ate breakfast at Cheeseburger In Paradise, a restaurant chain in Hawaii, and after some walking, we hung out at our hotel pool and soaked in the last bit of Hawaiian rays. The hotel chef came out in the afternoon and gave guests yummy chunks of pineapple to snack on. After packing up the bags and loading up the car (I was also able to get late check-out at 4pm!), we walked around to find a place to eat our last supper - we ended up picking a Chinese restaurant 'cause I was aching for some lobster, and we had pretty much the entire Lau Yee Chai Restaurant to ourself because we arrived just as they were opening. After eating some yummy grub, we drove to the airport and I cried the entire way (just kidding), but we could have easily spent another week in Waikiki. The flight back was exhausting - it was only a 5.5 hr flight, but we couldn't sleep the entire way because there was a crying baby closeby and it was so uncomfortable - we just watched movies. We also lost four hours coming back so it made our sleeping time even shorter - we arrived in Vancouver at 5am and didn't get hassled by customs whatsoever, then finally made it in to Calgary at 9 this morning -we cabbed it to my sister's place and crashed for pretty much the entire day, and we're going to be heading back to Regina tomorrow! See you all soon!!
