Ok well this ones an unexpected blog. A normal day at school, my last week at Phuattamonthon. :( we watched the last year say there goodbyes as they are heading off for university and were heading to break for the summer holidays .Midday we had a down fall of rain as it has been very hot ( 35-38 degrees) it was so refreshing and the temperature cooled down immediately. My self and Jesi were on our way down to lunch ,we ran in to the pouring rain like loons , just to feel the wet on our faces. This rain is not like English rain its like somebody's pouring a whole river on your face. We Soon dried out after our little out burst. All the english teachers were sitting in the office and getting ready to leave at 4pm, just as the school bell goes so does a huge clash of thunder outside and lightening strikes , we all look at each other , " oh oh we better get a move on " that didn't sound very good. The Thai teacher looked up at us all with half a grin and said " I think you should start to head home". With in a matter of minutes the rain heaved down along with hail. Steve (another teacher) offered to drop Jesi and Havon home as they live a good 40 minutes walk away from the school, at this point I was ok getting dropped to the gym as normal not realising how bad this storm was. We headed downstairs and all the pupils were hiding under shelters , the rain and hail began to flood the school and the surroundings. We all stood amongst the pupils in a shelter waiting for Steve to pull up in his car, out side the school the traffic was all going a bit deluded. As we stood there the rain started to soak us in the shelter as the wind was picking up, the kids were screaming and having fun with waves of water. Out the blue this huge gust of wind came out of no where and in sync all of our alarm bells started to ring , Havon said " think we should go back in the school" I said " hell yes go!!! " we tried to the leg it in the school but the force of the wind was pulling us back, it was almost like we were running in slow motion, I saw everything happening around me in slow motion. The trees was going crazy everything was falling apart, I did think for a second " s*** am I gonna survive this "! The lightening was striking the thunder was so loud. My nan always taught me as a child when the lighting strikes start counting to see how far the thunder is away from where you are, so thats what I did, I didn't Evan make it to one! We were right in the middle of a tropical hurricane/ storm .As we made it back to shelter Havon told us to watch out for Steve as he still had not appeared , Havon ran upstairs to check out on the Internet exactly what we was dealing with, by this point electric had started to fail and the Internet was down . Steve the hero pulled up in his car , all of us shocked and stunned trying to get our head around what had just happened. The storm stopped as quick as it started and the clouds started to clear with in minutes. As we drove away from the school the trees had fallen down, the roads were a mess, the forest where all the over grown 10 ft thick grass is all usually standing up straight had been blown down to the ground by the wind. I got to the gym and all the electric had gone in the building. The Thai s carried on as normal with a smile on their face, I was smiling but in shock of what had just happened so quickly , I walked home and as I got back everyone rushed around me to see that I was ok, " I'm fine what about you guys?" As i looked around half the property the tiles were missing off there house. Qarn grabbed my hand in a bit of a panic and said " your room" ... I thought " oh shoot" never thought about that part. We ran up stairs and Qarn waited anxiously for me to open the door, I opened the door and everything in my room was untouched and perfect , not one drop of rain, it was exactly how I left it at 730am this morning . Qarn smiled and said " come see" she took me to the room less than 10 steps away from my room. I couldn't believe my eyes . The roof had caved in , I could see the sky ! The room was no longer a room it was a box of wood and mess OMG,"somebody's watching over me", if that was my room everything I have would of been ruined , I feel so blessed. As I went downstairs I instantly grabbed a broom and started to help clean the rubble , not long after neighbours and friend s were helping as well. All this time all that the family was worried about was me being ok...Forget me , lets sort out what's just gone wrong and put the puzzle back together. As night fell we sat out side with candles and food ,love and still happiness all around. The unity and strength in thailand is out of this world. We should never take anything for granted.
"When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude."
