Yes there is a misleading fact going on in my blogs and that would be the fact that yesterday went missing, disappeared out of nowhere. In other words, the last day in a city is not that exciting as you think it would be. We went around for the last few things, got some souvernirs and that was basically it. However, we had a great 'last supper' in the Olive Garden. This being said, we left New York behind us at a slight delay of the plane, with a wonderful view of Manhattan to look back to. Yes I got pretty sentimental when flying out of the country, because I always have the idea never to go back to things, which is not true because you can do whatever you want as long as you save for it and really want it. I want to do this New York trip again, but in a different hotel in a different neighbourhood. There was nothing wrong with our hotel, just the surroundings weren't that great.
Now the thing that's going to become my thing. The most remarkable things to New York in comparison to the Netherlands:
- The subways are very, very clean even though there are no trash cans anywhere, there is no litter on the ground.
- Sex sells in NYC. The female fragrances are tested on you by the males and vice versa. Females promote their body in body paint to get pictures with tourists.
- Everything is three times more expensive than somewhere else (for example, to go to the top of the empire state building you had to pay $42, which was too expensive for us).
- The dollar is great when you have the euro, it's 1/4th less it's original value.
- The New York life style is really based on a black and white mentality. Either you're very nice or you're mean, there is no in between and it's like that with everything.
- Every single fast food thing or market you come across sells iced coffees, iced frappes or slushies (even the McDonalds).
- In Manhattan there is a Starbucks on every corner of the street and sometimes even two in one street.
- It is doable to see whole NYC in seven days
So now on to Toronto! For now I think that Toronto is actually a combination between the Netherlands and NYC. I have a bed in the living room so people will enjoy the sight of sleeping me in the morning =P. These are going to be some interesting sixteen days for me.
