Day 6, rest day then afternoon shopping day.we spend the morning chilling at the villa. Swimming is beautiful and takes the hit out of the heat, the pool is a horizon pool so it spills of into an edgeless troth. It's beautiful.
Cars arrive at 1 so We figure we will give the markets a shot and start to really barter. First we get dropped off with dad and tanny Nicole and Jeffrey at discovery mall. Walk along the beach to the markets with everyone. What is amazing is that everyone remembers you. I can hear Judy calling from more than 300mtrs away... Shanna sexy bum remember me! She doesn't try and sell us anything just says hi and moves on.
Dad and mark go in to start bartering. It's funny as you sit there and find yourself haggling over sometimes ten cents. You have to remember that this is their livelihood but also that they try and rip you off. I have surfed the net to see what "market prices" are but there is not a real lot of info so we just try to pay what we are happy with. Monique loves it in there. The stalls the people everything. She constantly asks to return but not even to buy, just see.
Things are not real cheap if they are quality. A pair of vans or cons or nikes is about forty dollars. Hats ten and sunnies ten. But it's cheaper than home and you always pay more than you should.
Next we do more fish feet and sit and have a beer. I'm still not used to walking around with beer but hey, it's what you do here!
Dad and tanny leave to head to seminyak for some nine course degastation dinner with Nicole so we go back to the beach. It's sunset and it's amazing. the kids love the beach and it seems so does the rest of the westerners... It's packed! There is a hundred or so person brass band marching in protest to the murders of the falung gong practitioners and another hundred sitting on a peaceful yoga protest by candlelight. The kids swim and we chat with a fortyish local, here to see his mom who is here from java for the protest. He is with his son who is seven and is retired after working on cruise ships for 18 years. Their lives seem so simple.
Head into bubba gump for dinner. A great concept that could never take off in aus as the labour needed to peel that many prawns is insane.
Head home to rest for safari park!
