Sharm El Sheikh
When our time in Cairo was up, we took a plain once more, but this one flew us to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. We stayed in a Marriot resort for the duration of the time in Sharm El Sheikh. Almost as soon as we got there, we decided to go snorkeling on the Red Sea while we waited for the room to be ready. We went down to the beach and picked up our equipment for snorkeling. We then got on the boat and set off. The boat was a glass bottom, so we could see the passing fish and the reefs. Finally, we made our stop, near a large reef. We grabbed our equipment, rushed out the door and got in the water. It started out that everyone was cold and uncomfortable, but we all got used to it and that's when we really started seeing all the cool fish!
After that we went back to the hotel rooms and rested because we knew that, that night, we were going to make one of the longest climbs of our lives! We decided to climb mount Sinai and catch sunrise! The trip to Mt. Sinai was a three-hour drive from our hotel and three grueling hours of hiking, to catch sunrise. We had to start at 10:30pm. It really was the climb of our lives especially because it was seven Kilometers up hill, on a rocky trail, and it was in the dark! Most of the people going up were using flashlights and I thought it was actually like a light show on the mountain. Once you got near the top there was another 750 steps to complete the climb. But thank God there was a tea stand at the top before the 750-step climb so we stopped and grabbed a few snacks before taking on the climb. For part of the hike, we used camels to go up the trail and when the guide turned my camel so that I could view the mountain It looked like I was going to fall off the mountain side, it was scary! When we were coming down I had to use the restroom so I walked over to this guy and asked to use the restroom and he told me five pounds. So I went over and got my dad. He paid it and I rushed over to the restroom. I walked inside the bathroom and to tell you the truth I thought I had walked into a horror scene. The bathroom was a bamboo shed with a small hole in the ground (YUCK). At the beginning and the end we were tired, but it was worth it, because we caught the sunrise and we saw the full moon at night (both stunning sights). I think that it is amazing that we stood on the same spot as Moses did when he recieved the Ten Commandments and talked to God through the burning bush. Sharm El Sheik is probably the hottest place we've been to and the most fun! We are now going to Luxor.
