As soon as we landed in Boston, all we could think of was food! So we rushed out the hotel doors and went to a small seafood restaurant. At the restaurant I tried lobster for the first time and I loved it! It was the best thing I'd ever tasted!
The next day we went to Fenway Park, where we took a tour. First we saw the bar that used to be a bowling alley, and then we sat on top of the green monster. The green monster is the enormous wall put out in left field. After that we sat in the press box, which was a great view of the ball park. Then we went over to the bottom and sat in the seats from 1912 when the park was opened. These seats are made of wood and incredibly uncomfortable.
Ted Williams was a player for the Red Sox and still to this day he has hit the single farthest home run in the field. The seat that the ball hit is marked. Carl Yasztremski was the last person to get MVP of the year in every single title available. The tour guide also had the World Series rings from baseball seasons 04 and 07 because he worked 1000 hours for the team both of those years and both times the red sox won the World Series. After that we went and saw the JFK library. In the library we learned about JFK's life through videos and reading. We even watched the video where JFK was shot and the one where he died. In that video we saw his funeral. The day following we just rested and waited for the next day.
The next day we went and took the hop on - hop off bus tour. On the tour we stopped at the state house where we learned in detail about significant things that happened during the American Revolution such as "The Boston Tea Party" and "The Boston Massacre". After that we just finished the hop on hop off tour. The next day we flew to Washington D.C. where first we went and saw my Grandmother. We had a drink and she gave me my late birthday present. After that we got dinner at this amazing chili place.
The next day we went and took the hop on hop off bus tour. Our first stop was the Lincoln Memorial, which is a marble carving of Lincoln sitting in a chair. Next we went to the memorial of the soldiers who died in Vietnam. It is a big black marble stone with the names of those who died during the Nam war. The reason they made it in this form is so that from the sky it is a big black smudge on America representing a stain or mistake that cannot be fixed.
After that we went and saw the memorial to the 4 women who died in Nam trying to heal dying soldiers. Then we went to see the memorial of wars. This was the biggest memorial ever representing every war the U.S.A. has been in except for current wars. The next day we went and saw the Redskins training camp. At the camp there were no bleachers so we had to stand the whole time. Also they had little tents where you could buy redskin's hats, shoes, shirts etc. Next we had brunch with my Grandmother. Then we went and saw the grave for my grandfather (d*** Shane). Following that we watched the guard in front of the memorial to the unknown soldiers walk back and forth and every now and again he would shout out commands. Lastly we saw the forever burning flame, which is a tribute to JFK, Bobby Kennedy, Jacquelyn Kennedy, and their two children who died in infancy.
The following morning we went to see the "Newseum". The "Newseum" is a museum commemorating the history of news. The first thing we saw was a video that told us about basically what the news is. Then we looked at pieces of the Berlin wall and a tower that had been recovered. Next we looked through the government section where we heard stories of murderers and how they were caught. Then we watched a video about sports coverage. After that we watched a 4D video about how the different forms of reporting began. We took the enormous glass elevators up and examined a piece of the twin towers that had been recovered. On this floor we learned about how dangerous it is reporting disasters. Then on the next floor down we learned about the 5 amendments. The five amendments are basically what we are free and not free to do under the law. For example freedom of speech means that we are aloud to say almost whatever we want to say about any government leader and no one can arrest you! But in other places its different. In Cuba when you speak out against the dictator you could be killed or jailed!
On the 1st floor we got to answer questions about what we think would be right or wrong as a reporter. After that we left.
That night my parents and Ian went to see the Marine drill team at Iwa Jima where the statue of the soldiers putting up the flag is.
On our last full day of the entire trip we went to Mount Vernon which was the home of George Washington our very first President. He lived here with his wife and three kids. George Washington was originally a general for the army that was fighting the British during the American Revolution. After the war was over the people wanted to make him the king of the United States but he declined. Later when they asked him to be a president voted for, by the people he accepted. We saw his land and the places where he did things such as cook food or make decisions during his life as president. Then we walked though a museum where it had all kinds of diagrams of what George Washington looked like and they had information on what he did during his life. It was an amazing and historically accurate museum.
Later in the day we took a visit to The Air And Space Museum. In this museum we saw famous planes such as the Enola Gay, which dropped the atomic bomb on Japan during WWII and the Enterprise Space Shuttle. Then we took an elevator up to a control tower and got to see the eagle's eye view of the museum/airport. Then we went down and saw the room where the people command the pilots and control where the pilot lands.
The next day we flew home to Los Angeles, California and we are glad to be back!
