Shane and Sarah's Adventures
Hola fom the end of the world!
For those of you not in the loop, Ushuaia is the most southern town in the world. There has to be some draw card as to get here was one of our toughest journeys to date! 29 hours of freezing cold buses, ferries and border crossings between Chile and Argentina.
We have spent the last 4 nights here enjoying the many activities available (dog sledding with huskies, cruising on the Beagle Chanel, walking in the national park to the absolute most southern point). You can also ski down here, but we're waiting until we return a little further north for that.
Quite a climate change! Yesterday it reached -17 degrees celcius and we have found that we probably aren't that prepared in terms of warm clothes!
The scenery down here is incredible. Amazing mountain ranges all around the city and stunning sunsets and sunrises that turn the mountains the most incredible shades of pinks and blues.
The highlight has probably been the boat ride on the Beagle Chanel where we walked on an island that up until the late 1800's was inhabited by naked Yamans (indigenous people). Seriously, they never wore clothes even in the bitterly cold winters. We got close to a sea lion colony and watched them play behind the boat in a similar way to dolphins and just generally admired the amazing landscape. The second highlight has to be sledding with huskies which get up to around 15km per hour (30 km in competitions). Great fun!
Also, we have again hooked up with more backpackers and enjoyed some time sharing travel recommendations, stories etc... Between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia we haven't really come across many other gringos.
But, again it is time to move on so tomorrow we head to El Calafate home of the famous Moreno Glacier. More on that soon....
All the best to all.
Love Shane and Sarah
