Milan to Lake Garda
A more reasonable start to the day today, out of bed a 08:20 and down for breakast at 09:00. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection of fruit, cereal, bacon, egg and hot and cold drinks. Checked out of the hotel about 10:00 and made our way back to Milano Centrale to catch our train to Garda Del Dessenzano.
11:15
On the train and got our seats and I'm glad we turned up early because the train is filling up fast. First time we have used the free coupons so thought I would check with the guard if I could use them on this service. I think the translation of the nod and gesturing was "certainly sir they will be fine in this service".
Statistics So Far
15 Trains/Metro
4 Buses
2 Trams
Miles (no idea but if someone wants to work it out let me know)
11:21
Some Americans opposite and they are waiting for their friend with 4 minutes before departure and it's like "oh my god you gotta run. We're like on 14, oh my god where is she. Oh s*** man she's gonna miss it.......wait, she's here. Go girlfriend (insert high 5) oh my god what an adventure," they chat and then.....(put on highest pitch American accent)
American 1 "like where's my ticket?"
American 2 "I like thought you were getting it"
American 1 "Oh my god, I didn't have time I was like running for the train"
American 2 "you've like got to have a ticket man or they fine you"
American 1 "oh my god I'm gonna have to like get off at the next stop and go back"
Long story short she gets off, train departs and guard says she could have bought one on the train lol!!
And now we listen to the whole scenario being reviewed and reconstructed in a series of discussions and telephone calls between Americans 2 & 3.
Got off the train. Knew we had to get to sirmione but none of the bus stops were very forthcoming with info in English. It must have been shaky's look of "lost tourist" that prompted a nice English man to help us on our way. He even phoned the hotel to find out where it was and he gave us loads of helpful info. A little bit creepy but still nice enough.
Simione is like the Marbella of lake Garda. Lots of speedboats, exclusive ristorantes and ferraris. Me n shakes fit in well. Anyway, the Castillo de simione is absolutely beautiful. A fabulous little village in a castle with lots of views, shops and restaurants. The gem of the shops had to be an independent artists shop with canvas paintings he had done and they were absolutely amazing and if we could have we would have bought several pieces. Unfortunately it was the kind of shop that if you needed to ask you couldn't afford. We did however get the artists card for future reference should the opportunity arise.
We decided it was time to eat and when we settled on where an extra from godfather III told us we couldn't have a lake view seat. Still waiting for a reason why not. Just sat on the edge of the lake now, watching the sun set and listening to the water lapping at the shore.
Stopped of on the way back to the hotel for a drink in one of the street restaurants an the staff were very chatty and polite. After we had finished made our way back up to our hotel to get ready for another early start tomorrow. We turned the corner and headed down to our hotel only to find that the locals had decided to throw a street party and turn the five-a-side pitch opposite into a late night barbecue and ballroom dancing venue. As I type this I am sitting on the balcony listening to an Italian version of the birdie song. A video of the shin dig will hopefully appear on the blog when I upload it.
(Yawn) Woken early morning by torrential rain and thunderstorm. At least it's doing it at the right time, when everybody is in bed. Hope it's gone in time for us catching our bus in the morning.
Going to try to get back to sleep now.
