I've never written a blog before and I'm not totally sure that anything I write will be of any interest to anybody!
Day One - Operation "Bag-a-Panda" Commences
Firstly, Beijing is bloody freezing! My first night I took a bus from the airport to Xidan and then walked past Tiananmen Square, the Great Hall of the People and the National Centre for the Performing Arts and I've never been colder in all my days. They should really look into that.
I'd booked my first two nights in Qianmen Hostel (http://www.qianmenhostel.com) so I had at least some place to be aiming for once I got to Beijing. I'd definitely recommend the hostel to anyone that's coming out to Beijing any time. It has a courtyard made up with red lanterns and a big table in the middle. I'm sharing with two Dutch and an American. I'm going to be staying here up until next Monday, when I leave for Huludao, because there's quite a good crowd and the Dutch are really good fun.
The American is not good fun. He keeps all of his belongings in the noisiest plastic carrier bags known to man. Not only that but he talks in his sleep and can't work the dorm room door. First night he told me everything he knew about a factory he'd been to see. I had to empty all of my things out of my suitcase to fit his body.
