We took a flight from Saigon to Phu Quoc Island on the 1st December. It really did feel like a quiet place, very much based on its huge production of fish sauce but the tourist and traveller is doing well and there are plenty of signs of expansion including plans for a new airport.
We did three days diving with Vietnam Explorer, opting to go for a local run company rather than Rainbow Divers who look like they are trying to dominate the diving in Vietnam. The hoat was pretty basic but the crew and dive guides couldn't do enough for us. We were the only divers on the boat each day but there were a couple of snorkellers booked each day as well. The diving was really about the little stuff. Lovely soft and hard corals, lots of nudibranks, conch, large hermit crabs etc. We had hoped to see seahorses and we really looked hard but they were not to be found.
