Have got to the end of day 2 in Hanoi! What a completely mad and busy place. The first essential skill that you need to acquire is how to cross the road when the stream of traffic never stops. There are thousands of motorbikes zooming around and they don't stop for anyone. Luckily they want to avoid pedestrians.
Have had a good look round the city and have liked the Old Quarter best. Food is great so far and incredibly cheap. My lunch today cost about 80p and dinner for two with beer was 5.50GBP.
We are off to Ha Long Bay tomorrow, staying on a boat, a day on Cat Ba Island and time for some kayaking. Then we are off to Sapa in the North on Wednesday evening. We've also booked ahead to start heading down South next Saturday with the first stop in Hue, the old capital. The overnight coach costs a whopping US$14 and that's for 2 of us! The pictures show seats that are like a dentists chair and it actually looks ok. For that price I'm prepared to be dissapointed.
This computer will not let me upload photo's but we plan to soon.
