The drive to Wellington was beautiful with lovely countryside, then mountains and ending with the ocean at Cook Strait....and did I mention WIND???? The clouds were moving like crazy along with the usual hub of harbour activity. We parked the car for 2 days and stayed downtown so we were able to hoof it easily.
By far, the highlight of NZ's capital city was the Te Papa National Museum where we saw so many things from an Orc and other costumes from Lord of the Rings, enourmous variety of land and sea life creatures, full history of NZ, Maori culture and so on! Our planned 3-hour stay ended up being 5 and we could have stayed longer (ok, Brady may disagree!) We saw lots of activity along the harbour and decided to take a cable car up a mountain and made our way down by foot. After a full day, we headed to Hell's Sports Bar for some beer and pizza....bonus that kids are allowed into pubs!!
A Cricket World Cup game occurred while we were there (Sri Lanka vs. England) so lots of celebrations in the streets! The lookout from Mount Victoria was spectacular and the twisty, narrow road up and down was an adventure! Posted a few pics from the city.
Hard to believe that we have only a week left in NZ! Off to explore more of North Island...South Island will have to wait for another trip!!
