Wish You Were Here!
Well hello again, from (at the moment rainy Sri Lanka).
Well since I last wrote quite a bit has happened. On Monday (30th Jan) I decided to head for the beaches a bit earlier than planned and set off at around 11am, bound for Tangalla (after much persuasion with the driver). It took about 7 hours, travelling through the tea plantations and hill countryside of the country. Finally got to Tangalla and, what a pleasure it was to be on the beach and in heat. The hotel was amazing and my first port of call was the bar to get a beer and take it down to the beach to watch the sunset.
The following day started with an impormtue run on the beach followed by a lot of relaxing and sunbathing (a novelty for January). Had to come out of the sun after a while as I hadn't noticed the shade of lobster I was turning. Another nice meal in the evening then bed.
On Wed I decided to travel to another beach down the south called Mirissa (where I am now and have been for the last 4 days). Got to my hotel (chosen from lonely planet---sunshine beach inn) which was very nice, and said goodbye to my driver who I'd told to head back to Columbo. Took a stroll along the beach and to my surprise, spotted a number of travellers. Couldn't stay in the sun too long as the skin under my t-shirt was redder than a lobsters arse! Went up to the town near-by to get some postcards and sunglasses, then headed back to the hotel. Arriving back saw a guy on the porch next to mine and started chatting. Turned out there was an Austarlian couple nextdoor, Kane and his misses, who to this day I can't remember her name. They were really nice and Kane had even been to most of the African countries I ahd been to. Had dinner with them and then went to bed, after a long chat about travelling (they have been to Thailand and other places i'm going to).
Early wake up the next day and went down to the beach with Kane and his misses. Chilled out on the beach 'til 3.30 then had lunch. After lunch, some of the local Sri Lankan children saw me and Kane playing cricket on the beach and invited us to join their game, which we did, great fun). Had our dinner on the beach then got a little tippsy on local beer and Arrak (a shot)-----Great night.
The next day was a lazy one as was a little hungover.
Today has been fun, we went to a lighthouse near-by and to the local town, bought a sri lankan flag then home to chill, no sun as it is raining.
Well anyway will write again in a week until then stay safe and have fun.
All the love Ryan
