It has been a great first three days in Oxford! After settling in on Thursday night and having a 3-course meal in the dining hall, I set off to bed to get ready for my first day of classes. Classes were wonderful on Friday. They should be very interesting and should not be very difficult. In the afternoon, we had a gym orientation and we were told the details of the Olympic torch coming through Oxford (Monday and Tuesday). Then, in the evening, our whole group went on a pub crawl led by our teachers. Despite the fact that I was one of the only ones not drinking at these pubs, it was still a lot of fun! Everyone was very nice and I got to meet several new folks. Also, the history of the pubs was amazing. One had been built in the mid 1300's and has been running ever since!! Another was a favorite hangout of C.S Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein and I saw a letter that they wrote to the pub's owner. After we visited these pubs, a smaller group of us (5 including me) went to an Irish place to get some dinner. I had a wild boar and cherizo burger (HAHA) which was delicious! While eating, we listened to some live music and planned a day trip for today, Saturday. We decided to go to Stonehenge! Using our train tickets that were included in the price of the program, we hopped aboard a train to Salisbury in southwest England. Once there, we only spent 20 pounds on a hop-on & off bus tour that took us about 9 miles out to Stonehenge as well as a cathedral in Salisbury that was built in the 1200's. Both were beautiful sites and amazing to see. The only downside of the entire day was the weather. It was quite cold, rainy, and very windy. We made it through though and ended up having a wonderful time. Also in these last few days, I was able to nail down a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland with this same group of people and a tour of the Harry Potter film studio with another group. With the activities that I am hearing will be available in Oxford from the staff here at Worcester College (very nice English chaps by the way), everything seems to be coming together for a very busy 4 weeks ahead. I'll try to keep everyone updated on the things to come. Love, Taylor
