Last night Rob and I got to spend a few hours with his cousin Marty, we had a lovely dinner and Mart took us on a walking tour of his Greenwich Village neighborhood, where all the locals go. The neighborhood is wonderful, cute little brownstones, shops of all kinds, we thought Robert was going to break into the deli at one stage, there were so many dessert stores to choose from we could not believe it. It was great to catch up with Marty.
One of his neighbors is Meryl Streep, it is the most gorgeous place I have ever seen, cute little streets everyone knows each other, we loved it, there is also a little Off Broadway theatre close by where Vanessa Redgrave was performing, but it was sold out.
Today we caught the bus (which actually turned up) from Central Park through Harlem, Spanish Harlem, Riverside and surrounding areas. We drove down Central Park West, saw where John Lennon was shot, got to see the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, our bus driver was happy to chat to us as Rob and I sat up front with him and had a great view.
After the bus ride we took a horse and buggy ride through Central Park, that was really great, driver showed us where Marilyn Monroe lived, where others like Michael Douglas, Jerry Seinfeld, Demi Moore, Sting and Denzel Washington all live now.
Nice neighbourhood, Central Park West is what he called millionaires row and Fifth Ave on the east side of the park he called billionaires row, also saw the Apple store, could barely move in there, got a video because we could not believe it.
Off to Times Square for dinner tonight then catching up with Mart tomorrow for a few hours.
