Finally a hotel with a swimming pool :D
Day 39 - 12/11/09 - Hong Kong (China) & Bangkok & Chiang Mai (Thailand)
Today began with a trek to escaltor which we caught to the train station for our train to the airport. We found that the in-town check in did not have luggage wrapping facilities, and we needed a train ticket to the airport to use the in-town check in, so we decided to go to the airport to check in.
At Hong Kong airport, we had our lugguage wrapped (no glad wrap available, only strapping) and then we took them to "left luggage" to hold them for a few hours. We were getting hungry, so we found a Starbucks for brunch. On the way, we saw the opening of a new store "Food2" which had a chinese dragon performance.
After some food, we took a taxi (the driver's name was "Lam So Hung") to Ngong Ping 360, which is a 5.7km cable car trip. At the other end of the cable car is a village with a giant Buddha and many shops. After walking around for a few hours, it was time to catch the cable car and a taxi back to Hong Kong airport.
After a 2hr 30min flight (20mins shorter than scheduled) we arrived at Bangkok airport, where we needed to go through customs, collect our baggage, and check in to our flight for Chiang Mai.
Both flights had hilarious check in procedures with our umbrellas (which we have been carrying since Tokyo). They needed to be checked in seperately and in Bangkok, they made us check them in as oversized when they are the same length as our bags.
We were met at Chiang Mai airport by a guide, Bob, who transferred us to our hotel. By the time we checked into the hotel it was 11:30pm - it had been a loooong day!
Day 40 - 13/11/09 - Chiang Mai (Thailand)
This morning was our first day of our Thailand Interpid tour. Day 1 consisted of a free day, so we sleep in before enjoying a nice breakfast and a lazy morning.
There was then a few hours of lazing about the pool, enjoying a chance to take a dip after a week of fairly warm humid weather, and enjoying a nice pool-side lunch.
We went for a walk to find some dinner before walking around the streets. We stumbled across a large night market (Night Bazaar) - this was so large that we didn't even see half of it in the 90mins we walked around.
Tomorrow we enjoy a 25-30km bike ride!
Take care - Jess & Scotty
