Said goodbye to Bellagio reluctantly. What a nice place. Took the ferry to Varenna (after some conflicting advice from the hotel staff about which boat to take). Train to Milano Centrale. Then Milano Centrale to Venezia. Luckily, one of the hotel staff had told me about a booking agent in Bellagio who booked and printed our train tickets the night before so we didn't have to line up and worry about tickets. The trsin to Venezia was also one of the best we had been on. Modern, lots of baggage facilities, toilet that wasn't a hole straight to the ground, nice food trolley and a restaurant carriage (not that we checked it out). Arriving in Venice it was hot! That was a bit of a surprise because my iPod weather firecast said rainy and 20. Wheeled our big, heavy bags for about 10 mins to our hotel (what a relief). Hotel is on a canal, just off the Grand Canal. We have a lovely view of all the canal action and, for Venice, a big room. The staff were very helpful and carried up one of the large suitcases to our room. Bit of a rest to recover and then off to explore! Walked quite a bit and then went for a gondola ride. The gondolier was really good, gave some commentary and also sang! Went for quite a while and was a good way to soak up Venice. Walk past Rialto Bridge and then off to San Marco church and its square. Pizza (what else) for dinner. Vaporetto to our hotel. The stop is a 1 min walk to our hotel.
