Booked last minute accommodation in a chateau in Arpillagues (need to dble check name) near Uzes. We had heard, through a friend, that Uzes was a place not to miss. The chateau is absolutely beautiful. Mario is drooling and wants to buy it. We have a 2 bedroom room up 2 sets of stairs (!) and it feels very private. Just what you need for 2 noisy children (well 1 very noisy one). Short drive into Uzes. Very pretty town with lots of little lanes and magnificent old buildings. Very touristy though. Lots of visitors. Prices are higher than the bigger towns of Montpellier and Nimes and we didn't think the food was as good.
Stopped off at the way back at a museum that had lots of old cars, bikes, toys etc etc. Mario was in heaven. The museum used to be part of an olive factory. The old olive press is still there.
Back to the chateau for a dip in their pool and more of a walk around. There is a tennis court, trampoline and swings and lots of garden to explore. The kids are in heaven. Dinner at the restaurant just around the corner. It is in a little plaza overlooking the road which gets surprisingly busy. What a find! The food was heaven. I started with an escargot voluvont (?) which was very, very nice. This was followed by squid/whole little calimari which was again delicious. Mario had the fish which he also loved. I had an assortment of macaroons and Mario had a pannacotta for dessert. Magnifique!! You also know it's good when the locals are eating there.
