Up really early again (see a theme starting?) and left the hotel at 7 to catch the bus to Manzanillo. It's a tiny wee place about 30 mins away, and the bus driver was totally crazy. Again, the roads were half paved, and they don't appear to have got the concept of putting barriers on bridges. Or making them wide enough for 2 cars at a time, which makes it pretty sketchy. Arrived safely, and ordered breakfast from a crazy wee hut. There were 2 groups of us, so it took a few hours to get served, but it was worth the wait.
Or guide for the day Ricky took us a walk through the beach. It was totally filthy, as people come down for the weekend at easter and have big parties, and they hadn't cleaned it up yet. We walked into the forest at the national park. We saw sloths, monkeys, toucans, spiders, a snake, giant wasps, red dart frogs, butterflies etc. Amazing. Got to pick up the giant spider, but it didn't like me cos I had bug spray on. Some people picked up the giant wasps too, you had to rub your hands under your sweaty pits so they wouldn't sting, but I declined. Ricky showed us how to make a splint from a banana tree, I'm sure this will be useful in later life, and he used me as the volunteer.
The tour finished around lunchtime, and we sat in the shade for a while, to escape the heat of the midday sun. Then went to the beach and sat on the sand and relaxed, but by then the sun was mainly gone. It seems to cloud over in the afternoons on this coast, and then it gets dark at 6, and then rains at night.
Went to a wee Caribbean place for dinner with everyone, and had rice and beans cooked in coconut milk (apparently, ask Emilia, there was a distinct lack of coconut). Have now noticed there is a difference between items on the menu, you can either have rice and beans, which are served separately, or rice with beans, fried and served together. This is just a general rule though, as sometimes you get rice with beans when you order rice and beans..........
