It rained all night and it is still raining this morning. We had a late breakfast and then did some souvenir shopping around the quaint town. We met our tour group on the wharf at 11am ready for our cruise around Geirangerfjord. The boat was packed with other tour groups but we managed to get a seat upstairs and tried to shelter from the rain and winds. We saw some of the most dramatic fjord scenery which was absolutely breathtaking. We saw majestic waterfalls, fjord cliffs and abandoned mountain farms. There was even a cliff that looked like it had a skull carved into it.
The two most notable waterfalls in the Geiranger Fjord are Seven Sisters Falls and the Suitor (also called The Friar). Both falls face one another across the fjord, and the Suitor is said to be trying to woo the sisters opposite.
The Bridal Veil is another waterfall in the fjord, so named because it falls delicately over one rocky edge, and when seen backlit by the sun it has the appearance of a thin veil over the rocks.
After our cruise Gary, Betty, Peter and I had lunch in a lovely cafe near the waterfront then onto more walking and shopping.
We had a late dinner with our Group and then went upstairs to the bar and listened to some local muscians enjoying the majestic scenery from the balcony.
