Saz and Dave's travels
Today we decided to try to get some pictures of the sights Sydney has to offer, so after a fairly early breakfast, we headed back towards the harbour, unfortunately the weather was a little overcast, so the pictures weren't quite as good as we had hoped but never mind.
First we had a quick look round the botanical gardens again ending up at Macquerie point, where you can get the best views of the Opera house and bridge. We then dodged our way past all the Sydney runners through the park and to the harbour. At the harbour we decided to get on a ferry and go to Manly which had been recommended to us by almost everyone we have spoken to, it was very cool to sail past the bridge and Opera house as you get to see them from different angles.
Just as we got off the ferry, it started to rain which was irritating as me and Saz were both in shorts and T-shirts, so to get out of the rain and warm up a bit we stopped at a local chippie and had fish and chips and a brew - luxury
When the rain had eased off a little, we ventured out of the restaurant to explore Manly. Manly is a little tacky in parts but has a lovely beach and is well worth a visit although try to go on a hot sunny day as there isn't much to do there in the rain.
After looking around the shops in the centre for about 1 hr, we walked back to the ferry terminal, where we managed to get some shopping from Aldi and boarded the ferry back to Sydney. On the journey Saz got some great pictures of Sunset behind then Manly shore.
The ferry got us into Sydney by 5:30 and after taking yet more pictures of the harbour, we had 20 minutes to get through the botanical gardens before it closed otherwise we would have to trek around them. At this time though, the gardens were deserted and it was pretty dark so we couldn't really see which way we needed to go and got a little lost. We ended up legging it through the gardens just to try to find an exit which wasn't locked. Adding to the state of confused panic, we heard a rustling on a bush in front of us and could see a pretty big animal climbing the tree, so we just convinced ourselves that it was a raccoon and ran past it. Luckily at 6pm on the dot, we finally found the gate which the ranger was on the verge of locking. The gate however brought us out on the wrong side of the gardens so we still had a fair walk back to the hostel.
We walked back to the hostel through Hyde park which led us through some dodgy looking areas and at one point some pretty rough looking drunk bloke almost barged into Saz, but she dodged out of the way like a ballerina. We were both pretty relieved to get back to the hostel and after finishing off the last nights stir fry spent the rest of the evening in front of the tele.
