Saz and Dave's travels
As the heritage hotel was a little out of our price range, we spent the first hours of the morning transferring to the Cameronian Inn, a cosy little guest house we found yesterday, which sells excellent homemade scones and locally grown tea, Luxury!
Once we moved in, we headed straight back out into town to have another look round and to try and find one of the many walks marked on a jungle trek map we had just purchased in the guesthouse.
It all started off fairly promising when we found a small strawberry farm, however as there was no one around, we didn't really get a good luck about the place. Things then went from ok - bad when we went to try and find a short walk which started (supposedly) from near the strawberry farm. After 30 minutes of walking around the local roads, we still couldn't find the start of the walk, so we sacked it off and went back to our room to plan another walk which should be a bit longer and have better views than the short walk.
Although the walk started ok, and we found the start of the path, after spending 10 minutes persuading Saz to walk past two chained up yappy dogs, we got lost and found ourselves in thick overgrowth struggling to find any path at all until the one "path" turned into around 5!, giving us no clue which one to follow. It then started to rain, so we decided enough was enough and grumpily headed back to the room. Despite Dave's whinging. this was definately the right thing to do as, as soon as we got back, the cloud descended on the town and monsoon style rains soon followed. We spent the next couple of hours thinking how glad we were not to be trudging up some jungle covered mountain.
Determined to go for a highland walk, we decided that it would be best to hire a guide, so before we reached our room we popped into the local tourist office and hired ourselves a guide for 150rm (20quid ish) for the whole of the next day to take us on 2 "challenging" mountain treks.
We had a delicious tea at the local Indian restuarant, where they served the full set menu on a massive banana leaf - no plates to wash up at least - and spent the night looking forward to our first real exercise in 2 months!
