Saz and Dave's travels
This morning we had to get the 9am bus to Kuala Lumpur so after a rushed breakfast, we checked out of the Cameronian Inn and donned our rucksacks to go to the bus station.
The bus was pretty empty so me and Saz managed to get the back seats and plenty of leg room, luxury! The roads down from the highlands were really really windy and even made one guy throw up which was pretty rank. Despite this, the journey really didn't seem too bad, and after around 1 and a half hours of driving we stopped and changed onto an even nicer "Super VIP" bus.
While we were waiting to board the second bus at a sort of coach graveyard, Saz went to the loo while I got sidetracked by all the coach engine components. Unfortunately with me not standing guard and the toilet door lock not working, some random guy walked in on Sarah, very embarrassing for Sarah but I found it slightly amusing.
After the toilet break, everyone boarded the new bus and it was ACE, it was like the business class of coaches, there were only 3 seats per row and loads of leg room NICE. This made the rest of the journey really easy and by 2pm we were in Kuala Lumpur.
As soon as we stepped off the bus, we got the usual crown of touts inviting us to look at hostels, so we followed one guy who was really sound but made us trek for ages to his hostel with our bags. When we got there, the accommodation wasn't what we had in mind and we decided to look else where. Unfortunately, the hostel we had in mind was in the Rough guide, but had moved and as we had a very old guidebook, went to look for it in the complete wrong place! It took us around 1 hr to figure this out and by the time we found the guesthouse we were son knackered and grumpy that we just accepted the last room free, A tiny room, just big enough for the bed with a fan, at least it was less than a fiver per night.
After a pretty rubbish shower we had to rush out to see some sights of Kuala Lumpur and book a bus ticket to get to Pulau Tioman tomorrow (Pulau Tioman is an Island off the South East coast of Peninsula Malaysia and in the 70's was voted, by Time magazine, one of the top 10 most beautiful islands in the world, so we definitely have to have a look at that.) but first, we had to get some food so went to the local Mac Donald's. Having had two wholesome Maccy D's of we went around A crowded market and then off to find the bus station and to book the tickets.
It took ages to find the bus terminal as it was hidden in between 5 massive roads which we crossed numerously. Eventually however we found the station and started to make enquiries with the hundreds of ticket agents there. Most of the busses seemed to go A little too late and would get into Mersing (the ferry port serving Tioman Island) after the last ferry to Tioman had gone and one of the busses was going to do the whole journey without stopping once in the 6hrs for the loo. Finally we found an early bus which made a stop in the middle and bought two tickets, we even managed to reserve the back seats with all the leg room. Having done this we then trekked to the Kuala Lumpur malls for some shopping. We had hoped to find some cheap electronic equipment here, however the malls were all a bit random and didn't prove to fruitful.
We then went to another mall to get a bit to eat and maybe go to the cinema. In this mall there was some show on with the worst, most embarrassing Australian dancers in the world, it was hilarious. Having wasted 5 minutes of our lives watching that, we set of in search of food, we ate in the food court which overlooked a massive INDOOR rollercoaster and fun fair. Insane!
After tea we had a look at the cinema listings, but it was mostly kids cartoons so decided to make a move home. We were so knackered we had to get a cab to the hostel and as soon as we got in we just crashed.
