23rd December - Sihanoukville
Early start off to Sihanoukville, bus picked us up outside our guesthouse, we headed on to pick up a further group squeezing us and bags in, as we travelled down the road there was a bump, which followed with a strange air releasing sound, only I heard this but as we arrived to pick up a further person we were all told to leave the bus as we had a flat tyre. The bus then drove off to get it fixed!! And with the weight of all our bags too. After half hour the bus returned ready to make the trek, it was only 2 hours this time so a short hop on arrival we were dropped directly outside our hostel for a change! We were lucky to have booked as there seemed to be a few trying to find accommodation for Xmas, our GH was fully booked. We settled in and heading out to check out our surroundings and scout out Xmas meal locations, there were a couple one even did the perfect brekky Smoked salmon, scrambled egg and champers, home from home!! As we walked down the beach it started to rain and when it comes down boy does it come down!! We sheltered in a beach bar and had a drink while it passed looking out to see. After an hour the sun was peeking back through and the air a little cooler too, we carried on with our hunt, after looking in plenty of venues we found the recommendation by our GH owner, it was right on the water British owned and Turkey dinners, also able to accommodate the veggies so we booked in.After heading back and unpacking our bits, setting up the room for Xmas, Em had provided a mini tree and crackers were set up ready, we headed out to a falafel place for dinner made a nice change!! After which an early night sitting in with a movie to chill.
24th December - Xmas Eve
As per usual I was up early and beach ready while the others lazed in bed, so I headed off to have brekky on the beach looking out to sea and top up the tan. The others came out later and we had some lazy beach time, then Xmas eve shopping was required (not me already sorted in the UK!) I did however take the opportunity to buy a Xmas dress, heading back after to sort out some bits andpieces, before we headed out for our Xmas Eve night. We decided on Monkey Republic and large western style bar, I started on the water not fancying a drink at that point odd I know but started to feel a little off, there was a power cut and festivities began with Xmas songs being sung by all, after a while the power returned and the bar put on Xmas music.I took a turn for the worse at this point and took the opportunity to head back and lay down, after which I stayed in the room having the worst night ever!! Various things were given to me to take, unfortunately they didn't stay where put, 6am the sickness subsided and I took the opportunity to get some dehydration salts in the system. And Santa put out the stockings at this point!!
25th December - Xmas Day
We had a fun morning while I lay in bed giving out gifts to each other, the guys went off to have some breakfast I slept a little in front of the tv, when they returned we had a proper Xmas and wtch Muppets Xmas Carol!! It was great although I did fall asleep on the odd occasion!I forced myself to get dressed for lunch and we all went off to the beach, it was a lovely setting and the food looked great, I was even able to switch the pud to my fav apple crumble, but managed a few tiny mouthfuls, Paula & Jon were happy to finish it off but I headed back to bed and let them enjoy Xmas day.
26th December- Boxing day
I forced myself up and after eating some breakfast made it to the beach to lay in the shade and snooze the day away, occasionally swimming to cool and refresh, which was really nice.We even bought some of the local lobsters from the beach sellers, $3 for 10 reasonable sized ones, the lady sliced them then put a pepper mix and lime on them, they were very nice!We headed over to a bar and lounged in there giant bamboo chairs listening to some good music with amazing views out to sea, where we stayed till after dark, fireworks were set off and people throwing fire sticks around on the beach, it was great chill out spot to be.Unfortunately packing had to done so we headed off to sort ourselves for the next leg of our journey.
